To choose chemotherapy or not...

I am 25 years old and have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. I have had a lumpectomy and 5 lymph nodes removed which were all clear.

As my results didn’t give a clear understanding of whether or not chemotherapy would be beneficial or not the doctors have chosen to use the Oncotype DX test.

While waiting for these results to come back I met with the oncologist, he used a software called ‘Predict’ which have survival rates over 10-15 years. From the predict software, the oncologist has recommended chemotherapy as it gives the highest percentages.

I found out from my BCN that my Oncotype test score has come back as low (yet to see oncologist knowing this)

I was highly confused and overwhelmed with the decisions to make about chemotherapy in the first place now this has made it even more confusing! What do I trust, the prediction software or the oncotype test?!?!

Hi. I was diagnosed with my primary cancer when I was 26. It’s a huge shock at that age isn’t it. At the time (2004) we only had the predict software to go off (or I think

it was called predict- might have been a different name). Mine did recommend chemo and I went for it. I’d wait to see what your oncologist says when you see them and have a chat through with them. They’re the experts so is very much be guided by them. In my case my age at the time of diagnosis was what swayed them to recommend chemo xx
