To the Laides of Colour out there.... help

Hi to the sisters out there. I wondered have you changed your diet or skin care. Not sure where to find out more info on certain west indian foods that I should avoid or up my intake. Also hair is just starting to come through can anyone recommend any hair products and what I should avoid.

Has your skin become dry and scaly?
Body shape changed
I am thinking of having a makeover starting with the face, a chemical peel to freshen up this tear stained face.
Just feel I could do with a little help.

Hi there, my onc suggested a low fat diet. I have booked on to Look Good Feel Better course which are run in many hospitals. Am at the Marsden. Mel xxx

Hi Buffy3 (Mel)

Thanks for your reply, I will look into a low fat diet, with regards to foods, I was thinking about yams, ochro, sorrel etc can’t find any tips about these but loads of info on western type foods!!! The Feel Good Feel Better is excellent, I recently attended one at Guys, and this time round, it was nice to see that they had more "black"products which normally I can’t afford and it was a Indian lady with a Scottish accent and she was really nice and attentive. Also there were quite a few Women of Colour which was nice so I didn’t feel outcast. 8 years ago I was the only black person on the course and the make up well, need I say more… hee hee

How are you doing, second time around? How far in is your journey, I can’t believe a 15 months have gone by and I have only just finished chemo without surgery… it is a slow journey and the fatiigue is worst than last time, maybe because last time I worked right throughout and had a more active life but now not working as usually I temp and boyfriend passed away a few years ago. Feel kinda fed up but thankfuly have some good friends as family pretend its not happening! I want a new makeover, wish I could go on 10 Years Younger l0l yeah, if only. I am now looking into chemical peel as I need a facial a freshner and have now started watching what I eat. Funny when I went down to size 8, I was too week to enjoy slim body now back stronger the last few months the weight has just shot up - steroids they tell me but I need rid.
Sorry to go on a bit but hope to hear from you and that you are doing well.
we are getting there

Hi All
Nice to see some ladys of colour . Im half way through my chemo journey and I have not lost any hair , although I still wear my wig. Im having cold cap and working a treat. Norma

Hi Norma
Great to hear from you. I tried the cold cap 8 years ago and after 4 months (was having 6 FEC Chemo nurses were sure the hair would not fall out as it would have done so before) but it did, it was hard for my hair was shoulder length and people knew me for my hair and it was so so hard to go out in a wig but I did and got use to it. You go girl, note that you are still wearing your wig are you like my sister she loves wearing a wig and she have good hair, I just think she is lazy haa haa. I was wondering if I should stop making and drinking sorrel a popular homemade juice from Jamaica, fried dumplings I have stopped, not sure about yams etc. I was a dropped down to a size 8 but was too weak to flaunt it, towards the end of chemo, just after New Year the weight sort of rushed at me and I feel fat and tight around the buttocks and thighs I am convinced the bone strengthening drug has pumped up. Am not strong enough to go dancing although my confidence has gone a bit but need to shift it. So glad I didn’t throw out my jeans and trousers as I have FILLED THEM back up, last year was wearing size 8 trousers and jeans and bought 4 pairs to see me through I must have known I would fill them up lol.
What is overnight rice lol? How are you feeling, will you have bone strengthening drug ie Zometa?
On a personal level, have you found your bowels are more loose, I can’t stop going to the toilet and what with the iron tablets that I have been prescribed it is not a good look hee hee can’t wait for that to settle down as it is only 6 weeks since I finished chemo.
Girl, keep in touch; have a good day tomorrow

Jeni

Hey Ladies, thought I would share this with you. Having scraped my head clean in order to encourage equal growth, it is now almost four months and I have the makings of a “mini” afro. I decided to colour it using my usual Sta Sof Fro and my hair came a kinda bluey purple. I am 55yrs old and not ready for a blue rinse just yet. Has anyone had any exciting experience with hair colour. Would love to hear from you. Keep well
