Told it’s cancer but not got the biopsy results

Hello

I found a lump just over a week ago in my right breast above my nipple. It is quite large. I am 36 years old and had a hysterectomy nearly 3 Years ago And I am on HRT and progesterone.

I went to the breast clinic yesterday- they did an ultrasound, then mammogram, then 4 biopsies and 2 in my right armpit, then inserted a clip and a further 2 mammograms

The consultant said it is very, very likely it is cancer and highly suspicious and to prepare for the worst, but there is always a very smalL chance it’s not. However my lymph nodes are inflamed and enlarged on the same side.

i just wondered if anyone else had this news… and then definitely went on to a positive diagnosis

Deep down I know and have always known it is cancer. However there is always part of you that has a little bit of curiosity.

Any support is very grateful!

Hello :waving_hand:t2:. I found a lump in April 24 and was sent to the breast clinic. I was told on the day, after ultrasounds, mammograms and biopsies, that it was highly likely cancer. My biopsy results came back 2 weeks later confirming cancer and the subtype. I was 38 at the time and the tumour was 5cm with spread to atleast 1 lymph node. I went on to have chemotherapy for 4 months, a lumpectomy and then radiotherapy for 2 weeks, as well as targeted therapy for a year. I have just had my first annual mammogram after treatment and it came back clear. I’m so sorry you’re going through this :pink_heart:

Me! Although this sounds weird, I was actually glad I was given the ‘heads up’ before official results came back so I could get my head around it.

I had 15 rounds of chemo, a mastectomy with diep flap, removed lymphnodes as 1 was positive, 15 rounds of radiotherapy then another chemo, kaycyla once every 3 weeks for a year after.

It’ll feel daunting just now but once you get your results back & they tell you your treatment plan you’ll feel better. The not knowing is the hardest part.

Take a notepad to your next appointment & write down all the info. Alternatively ask them to copy you into all letters sent to your GP.

It isnt nice but you will get through this x

Yes. I found a lump, saw the gp the following day who told me that while no-one could be sure without scans etc and she’d been wrong before, her gut instinct was that it was cancer. Saw the registrar at the breast clinic the following week who told me that she was sure just after examining me. Radiographer showed me the ultrasound pictures saying that one patch was certainly cancer and two others could be or might not be. Biopsy confirmation last week that it’s lobular cancer so I need an MRI now before they can be sure of size and spread. The waiting is awful!

In July I found a lump, the breast clinic did a mammogram, ultra sound and biopsy and told they thought it was cancer. On the 22nd August the results were back with confirmed breast cancer. I found it easier accepting this news because I’d known from the first appointment. I then had an MRI and CT scan to confirm it hadn’t spread and the size of the tumour was confirmed. On the 5th September I was told I needed a mastectomy due to the size and had surgery on 10th September. Everything happened so quickly but it was just what was needed. On the 16th October I was told I was disease free however the lymph node biopsy taken at the time of the surgery showed microscopic cells so I was put on a course of preventative treatment. At the end of November I started a course of chemo, I will have 5 radiotherapy sessions and then Tamoxifen for 5 years (mine was hormone positive cancer). The waiting is awful but you’ve done the hardest part and got to the appointment to he checked. Everything now can only be positive and moving you forward. Ive found the support in this forum amazing, I’m 44 with 2 young kids and really struggled at the beginning. Make sure you reach out on here if you need to x

Hi there

I was initially told my lump was most likely benign and they were doing a biopsy just in case, but I’d been so convinced it was just going to be an easy to fix cyst that just being told it needed a biopsy got me panicked and I spent the next week mentally swinging between both possible outcomes.

I really started to believe it this might be cancer about a week into the two week wait for my results when I found an enlarged lymph node next to the lump, which I hadn’t noticed before the biopsy. Then my appointment was changed from a telephone to a face to face. Even though the possibility of it being cancer felt very real by now, I still felt surprised when it was confirmed, but it didn’t hit me as hard as I thought it would.

As I now have a few weeks to wait for the results of my lumpectomy and lymph node surgery, I personally now find preparing for the worst beneficial, but it definitely doesn’t stop me hoping for the best!

I really hope you get the result you want, but if not, I think the very most important thing to know is that you’re not alone.

All the best x
