Trastuzumab

Hi I’m Suzy. I have grade 3 and am Her 2 positive. This is my first post.

I had a lumpectomy on 17 January. Chemo had to be postponed as I was really unlucky with a haematoma which needed aspirating several times and is still present. I have had two rounds of chemo and only need two more - was possibly going to be six. I am using a cold cap but have still lost a lot of hair on top of my head. A local charity is going to try and fit me for a free wig loan next week.
I have two questions - does anyone on here having caring responsibilities for a child? My 17 year old is non verbal, doubly incontinent and a lot of work. My husband has a work trip just after third chemo.
Second question does anyone have experience of Trastuzumab and side effects? Can it be a walk in the park and a few days of being an nightmare for others?

Thanks in advance.

Suzy

Glad you are reaching out to the group. From my experience with chemo and then for a year after I had just had the trastuzamab it was like night and day. I was able to go back to work and do so much more. I know everyone and all treatment is different but wishing you all the very best xx

Hi
I have 3 weekly Herceptin injections, also known as trastuzumab. I have only had minor side effects, such as a bit dizzy in the first 48 hours, but nothing has prevented me from carrying on as normal.

There is a thread for HER2+ and need some buddies, it provides ongoing support for the longer treatment with the diagnosis.

I had Herceptin alone and was under the weather for 4/5 days each time. Upset stomach, fatigue, aches and pains. I was also on Letrozole so it could be that as well. When Herceptin finished the side effects were general all the time but to a lesser extent. Everyone is different, with age, other health conditions etc. on the above thread, many work through chemo, or Herceptin alone but for me it wasn’t a possibility due to my work in school or the side effects I experienced.

During chemo I needed help as I was very fatigued and needed lots of rest and sleep. My children are grown up and live further away but we had a very lovely young dog that needed walks. I was only able to walk slowly on flat ground, quite hilly here, for 10/ 15 minutes once or twice a day. Some days after chemo I didn’t walk at all. My husband did the meals and housework.
