Travel after radiotherapy

Hi, I’m just ending my treatment for breast cancer at the moment - had lumpectomy back in May and just have 3 more sessions of radiotherapy to go. So far, I feel fine (touch wood it continues!). I am hoping to go away on holiday to Greece in mid September (nothing booked yet) to a really chilled place I’ve been to many times before. However I wonder if anyone else has travelled so soon after radiotherapy, and how they found it? I’m aware that I’ll have to be careful in the sun, wear a rash vest and factor 50 etc, but really just planning to read in the shade, go for walks and eat out.

I’m also aware I’ll have to check travel insurance! Would welcome any feedback from others who have gone on holiday after radiotherapy.

Thanks!

Hello @sunlover100
Congratulations on getting to the end of your treatment, I’m glad you aren’t finding the radiotherapy too difficult.
I can’t think of any reason why your proposed holiday would be an issue, it sounds like the ideal way to take some time out to recover from what you have been through. As you say taking care in the sun is advisable and you might find the skin gets a bit irritated in chlorinated swimming pools.
Enjoy!

We fly 21 September and i have my last radiotherapy later today

The radiotherapy team have given me extra medihoney in case skin breaks and im moisturising 3-4 tumes a day, drinking lots of water etc and will continue this for several months

Its an all inclusive holiday so im definitely having cocktails but will limit my intake as still on blood thinners from 2 x DVTs due to PICC line

They told me im ok to swim in the sea and pool if skin is ok but to use high factor sun cream at all times and to wear a wide brimmed hat, also to wash off chlorine ( wee in the pool) from the pool as soon as i get out!!

Already have annual travel insurance taken out before this all started so ok for now but next year will need to use a specialist firm no doubt
