Travel insurance and follow up scans

Hi

Just wondering if anyone can advise here.  I have had surgery and am awaiting radiotherapy.  It seems that in general, travel insurance won’t cover you if you still have active treatment or diagnoses pending.  I am assuming that after radiotherapy I will have finished treatment, and travel insurance should cover me (I already have annual cover).

However, I’m due to have follow up MRI scans and mammograms annually, these may possibly be out of sync meaning I could be awaiting one or the other type of scan every few months.

Does anyone know, do travel insurance companies consider these follow ups as ’awaiting further diagnoses’ ie if you book a holiday in September to take place in December and you have a scan in October, will they cover any cancellation if your scan shows you need more treatment?

Would welcome any advice!

Thanks.

Hi Sunlover

what I have found is that you will be asked have you completed active treatment….have you declined any treatment….was your cancer in situ, invasive , in lymph……are you having any hormone treatment……then how lnog since active treatment……less than a year….1 to 3 years……3 to 5 years….or over 5 years……my insurance has got cheaper over time….you would need to check out your insurance if it’s already in place….as you will likely need to update your health details……and maybe or maybe not pay a extra premium….you won’t be asked about yearly mammo……hope you  get sorted and have a lovely holiday

Hi Kitkat,

Thanks so much for your reply, very reassuring!  I’m sure I will be paying a lot more in insurance, our annual one is already high as my husband had a stroke, albeit 12 years ago and he’s been fine since!

Thanks
