Hi ladies. Thanks for all your comments to my previous posts. I’ve got another question. Can you travel on planes whilst doing Herceptin? I’m supposed to be finally starting next Wednesday (15th) after three months of postponing (for various reasons). Now they want to start and I’m booked to go home to England on the 18th. Don’t want to have to cancel my trip. Doctors have said I can travel but I’m just so frightened in case something should happen. I’m not as tough and strong as before. Sorry if it seems a trivial question but I’d like to hear your thoughts. Thanks everyone
Hi Elisa
I have had three of the herceptin now and I am flying to Rome next week! No-one at the centre where I am being treated or my onc didn’t say that I couldn’t fly when I told them of my up and coming travels. Seeing as there is no side effects (apparently) with herceptin then I am not at all worried about flying/travelling. My travel insurance company would not cover my bc treatment though. I am still covered by them but if something happens to me abroad that is related to my treatment then, well I have no cover. If you have travel insurance then do check with them before you travel.
I am too slightly concerned that something may happen that is related. LIke becoming unwell or having a late onset of a side effect, also I do not know how the pressure of the plane will affect me - hopefully nothing more than the usual painful ears and sinuses that I get!!!
Good luck with your treatment and I hope you have a safe journey back home

Hi Elisa,
My last herceptin dose (no.18) is due on 28th December (yipee!). In September I went to Spain to stay with friends for a fantastic relaxing holiday. I had no problems flying, even my mild lymphoedema behaved. I was covered by insurance through Columbus Direct who were very reasonably priced. (I had tried loads of insurance companies and many turned me down because I was still having treatment.)
It brought back a lot of the confidence I had lost, knowing I could still do the things I did before without any problems.
Good luck, Jan xx
Thanks for answering, your comments always give me encouragment. I’ve taken out insurance but I doubt whether bc care is covered - it’s an insurance I took out with Ryanair so as you can imagine it will only cover the basics!!! I might have a look at this Columbus Direct. I’m really only worried because it’s the first dose of Herceptin after an aborted attempt back in September - I had a reaction then depsite the pre-medication. I should say I did do Herceptin three years ago and had no problems but that was then, now I’m much more nervous about things. Anyway thanks again and good luck to you both as well. Hope you enjoy Rome, Bird. It’s a beautiful city but so chaotic!! I live about an hour and a half away in Abruzzo. I have to laugh because Christmas is always a dodgy time to travel - either we’re snowed in here or, as is the case now, snowed in in London. Plus the BC on top of everything.
That’s life I suppose!!
