I’ve recently had a quadrantectomy with lymph node removal as I was diagnosed with grade 2 invasive ductal cancer with confirmed two abnormal lymph nodes. I’m
now in that anxious wait period after surgery where I wait for my results and what the next stage of treatment brings. Is chemo a likely possibility?
The wait is always the worst bit, I was originally diagnosed with grade 2 IDC but after surgery the results came back (after about 2 weeks) as grade 3, for this reason I was offered Prosigna testing which was another 2.5 week wait for results, this gave the Oncologist analysis to recommend which treatment I would require and if I would benefit from Chemo. Unfortunately my results actually came back as high risk which meant chemo would be the best treatment to prevent reoccurrence. (apparently only a third come back as high risk). So what I am saying is prepare yourself for chemo and whatever the outcome think of the positives this treatment you are being given is to help prevent reoccurrence and keep you cancer free.
I have only had one chemo treatment so far and feel ok, hopefully this will continue.
Sending my best wishes.
Thanks for replying. So hard not to overthink everything while waiting. Hope your journey goes well and pleased to hear your first chemo has been ok so far x
Hi
I had lumpectomy first and snlb, this showed that it was in the two nodes taken so then had full clearance, this showed no further spread. At this point I was offered oncotypedx test on the basis that I would agree to chemo dependant on the result. Mine came back at 11 so I went straight onto radiotherapy as they said chemo wouldn’t be beneficial.
Good luck with your results

Hi chillout365, I was told I couldn’t take the test because I wasn’t post menopausal. Was that true in your case?
I wasnt 100 per cent sure I was post menopausal and that was never questioned until later when I was prescribed Letrozole after having bloodsvtaken at my radiotherapy planning appointment.
