Hi. I have been on abemaciclib for a month now and was started on 100mg. I have struggled with stomach cramps and loose poos where I’m taking Imodium regularly. We booked a holiday to Turkey next month and was thinking of asking my oncologist if I could stop it for a week as don’t want to be worried about what I’m eating and feeling terrible. It’s our first holiday since my diagnosis and will be taking our 2 young kids. Had anyone else had a break for a holiday and is this something that wouldn’t affect my treatment if I stopped it for a week.
Morning rosa1,
Ive been on abemaciclib for 14 months now, the ‘D’ does get a little better as your body gets used to the drug. Ive found over time with alittle monitoring of what i eat, the symptoms do ease. Regarding having a break for your lovely hoilday with your family, please contact your consultant/breast cancer nurse, as everyones treatment is different and they will be able to advise accordingly.
Have a wonderful hols.
Abemaciclib is known for causing stomach issues, and what you’re describing is actually pretty common.
Plenty of people do take breaks with their oncologist’s approval, especially for things like travel or big life events. A short pause, like a week, might be fine, but that’s definitely something your oncologist has to weigh based on your specific case
