Treatment drugs

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022 and I have had two surgeryies ( mastectomy & lymphadenopathy ) and afterwards placed on letrozole. Recently my MRI showed hepatic metastasis suggesting the letrozole failed. My oncologist is suggesting that I be placed on fluvesterant and pablociclib . Please is this the best treatment I can get? Thank you

Hi I’m sorry to hear about your metastasis. The nurses aren’t back until Tuesday at 9am due to the bank holiday and will hopefully answer you soon after that.

MacMillan have a helpline from 8-8 7 days a week 0808 800 0000 I can’t see anything about bank holiday closing.

I also wanted to signpost you to the BCN secondary pages.

Hi goldi_locks

Thank you for posting your question. It sounds like a difficult time for you at the moment, having recently had an MRI scan showing hepatic metastasis. You may find it helpful to call our helpline to talk this through, we often find we can help people more by talking to them on the phone.

Which treatment is best will depend on your individual situation and the biology of the cancer you have. All treatment decisions are made with input from the multidisciplinary team who work together to decide which treatments options to recommend.

International and NICE guidance recommends palbociclib and fulvestrant for treating hormone receptor positive, HER2 negative secondary breast cancer, if you have already had an endocrine therapy. Such as letrozole. These guidelines can be difficult to understand, but your breast care nurse or treatment team will be able to discuss with you why this combination has been recommended in your case and answer any questions you have. They can also let you know about the support available for you through the hospital at this time.

Being told you have secondary(metastatic) breast cancer can be a worrying time. As naughty_boob has said, we offer a range of free supportive services for people living with secondary breast cancer, which you may find helpful.

As mentioned above, please do call our helpline if you would like to talk this through or have any further questions. The helpline team have time to listen, talk things through and signpost you to additional support and information if necessary. Your call will be confidential, and the number is free from UK landlines and all mobile networks.

The number is 0808 800 6000. If you have hearing or speech difficulties prefix our number with 18001 and the call will go through Relay UK. Our helpline has access to telephone interpreters if language translation is required.

If you would prefer one of our nurses to call you. Please complete this form ticking the box agreeing to a call back.

Our usual opening hours are Monday to Friday 9am - 4pm and 9am -1pm on Saturday.

We will be closed on Wednesday 18 June for our staff conference.

Out of hours you can leave a message and we will call you back when we next open.

We’re currently evaluating this service. If you’d like to provide feedback, please click the link to complete the survey . It should take approximately 10 minutes.

Best wishes
