Trial Drug/Chemo Break

Hi ladies!

Hope your all doing ok just wanted to get everyones opinion on a chemo break it’s been mentioned to mum due to side effects but I have mixed feelings about it.

Would love any comments on this?

Hi Jen,

I too have been told I need a chemo break after Xeloda 6. I am unhappy about this as xeloda is working and I have minimal SEs apart from poor blood counts, which delay treatment regularly. My oncologists reasoning was that I need to get some strength back in case they want to go with a stronger chemo. I want to stay on xeloda as I am finding it an easy chemo.

Can your Mum perhaps ask for a dose reduction rather than a total break, that is what I am intending to fight for!

The professor that we see yesterday did advise that he would find out if the chemo could be reduced slighty so im hoping this is the case. We will find out in three weeks on the basis how mum has reacted to this session.

She has been on trial/chemo drug constantly for a year now and slowly but surely more side effects are creeping in but results have been fantastic and don’t want this to change.

Her weight loss is a slight concern but I’m going to do my upmost best to help her with this. Thank you so much for your comments especially maljesty for bumping this up.

Sitting opposite my mum in the Chemo unit yesterday was a young girl only about my age and I was totally amazed to see someone so young having to go through that but she looked so positive. My love goes out to each one of you.

Nicky I’ve just started so all new to me I was told I can stay on it as long as it works or they sd i can get a reduction no mention off stopping it how weird dif onc say dif things esp as its working I’m being treated at the Marsden hope they let u stay on it tc Laura
