triple negative with recurrence
triple negative with recurrence I’m triple negative (non-responsive to hormone based drugs and Herceptin) and 10 months after treatment have a local recurrence which is going to be treated with a chemo called MVP (I think). Has anyone else with this kind of basal cancer had a recurrence and pulled through? As you can tell I’m feeling anxious.
Me too Im also triple negative, and have had two recurrances, im having radiotherapy at the moment, but will be stating MVP early december, although my treatment is based locally, it was the Royal Marsden who have said what chemo I should have.
They are also doing trials on triple negative patients at the moment, so they have given me hope that their is other treatments out their.
When do you start the mvp, I hope all goes well
Good luck

more info debbie please Hi Debbie
I’m really pleased that you feel hopeful about MVP. Can you tell me more about the trials on triple negative women? I have heard from the BCC nurse that it has been used successfully on lung cancers. Any info about how to improve our chances would be very, very gratefully accepted.

Hi Smith The consultant at the royal Marsden said that these basal tumours are akin to genetic brca deficient tumours, and are therefore more sensitive to DNA damaging agents than conventional anthracyclines or taxaines.
At the RM in London they are doing clinical drugs trials on the phase 1 unit which are targeting deficiencies in this pathway, PARP inhibitors, and they are paticularly interested in patients with triple receptor negative disease.
I was also told that the mvp has been used quite successfully on lung cancer patients, the consultant did seem very optimistic about this chemo, we have to have hope, thats what keeps us going.
Do let me know how things are going.
take care

was it Dr Johnston? I think you probably saw Dr Johnston at the Marsden as he said the same things to me. Are you doing anything else to help get through this - peer support, nutrition, other therapies, Bristol? Perhaps we could exchange email addresses? I agree about hope but I’d like it to be grounded rather than vague.

Triple negative too Hi,
I have been reading this thread with interest…i havnt had a recurrence, but i am worried about this is the future…
I have never heard of this type of chemo, also dont know what Basal tumours are…
I am on FEC followed by 3 Taxotere at the moment, but will mention MVP next visit to my onc…
I have been a smoker for the last ten years, but have given up since diagnosis.would there be a link with the lung cancer treatment to that,im sure i read a article a while ago, stateing that smokers or ex smokers were more prone to this type of breast cancer…any ideas on that?
Best wishes to you both with your future treatment, its nerve racking stuff this breast cancer business, and im finding these forums a god send…just to be able to come on and get your worries off your chest, things you cant ask your loved ones, for fear of worrying them …

hi julie I don’t know of any link between smoking and triple negative cancer - I have never smoked. Basal-like cancer is similar to genetic breast cancer in that the DNA is damaged and can’t repair itself. MVP destroys the DNA damaged cells.
What is Taxotere, is it a kind of chemo?
smith
Hi
Thanks for your reply…Yes Taxotere is a chemo…i was first scheduled to hve 4 Epirubicin and 4 CMF,but my onc hs changed me onto Taxotere instead of CMF saying it would be more beneficial to me
I had alot of lymph nodes involved, dont know whether this makes any difference to the type of chemo you get offered.
I will be asking about MVP though.
Are all triple negative cancers Basal tumours,do you know?
Julie
local recurrence support group Hi Julie
I don’t know if all triple negative cancers are basal-like, just that mine is. I’ve just noticed that there is a Breast Cancer Care support group for people with recurrences and I’m going to phone and put my name down for the next one. Maybe you should too and we can all get more information…

Triple negitive I am also triple negative, or very weekly positive to oestrogen. I am on my second regonal recurrance above my collar-bone. had taxotere and capcitabine this time last year.Came back after 41/2 months. Had nodes removed, cancer in them. Now having AC for 4 cycles and then 4 of Paxitacel, started last week. Having chemo every 2 weeks instead of 3 amd have to give myself an injection to stimulate my white cell count 24 hours after chemo. Quite a lot of nausea, and bone pain after the injection but feeling better now. Has anyone any tips of how to deal with the chronic constaption? Nothing seems to touch it. Have not heard about MVP.
Had to have an echocardiagram last night to check my heart function Ok to have this large dose of anthricylates (? spelling) apparently my heart is in normal limits, but on the lower end of the scale, not sure what my onc will make of this, due to see him next week when I have next chemo.
I tried to join the recurrrance support group, but heard it had been cancelled from lack of support!

Has the nodes that were removed this time round been re-tested for HER2? I just wondered as you said you are triple negative, is that from first time round?
I was HER2 negative first time round and was then re tested when i had cancerous nodes found on my collarbone, i am now HER2 positive so having herceptin.
As for the constipation, its a nightmare isn’t it? I was prescribed Movicol, have to take about 2 - 3 sachets but works for me, might be worth a try.
Best wishes

Her Neg Hi Jackie
Yes they have tested my new nodes for Herceptin etc. but hadn,t heard back when I last saw onc. about a month ago will ask him when I see him on Wed when I go for next chemo.
Fell great to-day better than I have for ages, achey yesterday but OK to-day. Went for wig-fitting yesterday, and don’t feel too bad about it as my hair is so awful at the moment 2" long and grey and stickey out, hasn’t reallty grown back from last chemo in April. Someone said it might be so slow growing as I had had chemo twice before, so hope this third time it will come back again.Help! Think it will probably fall out end of next week.
Try and keep cheerful. We will beat this.
Marmite
Sorry Jakki Sorry spelt yourname wrong!

Marmite Hi Marmite
Hope your not feeling too bad after your AC. Glad you managed to get a wig sorted. My hair is getting me down too, its so fine and lifeless, it cant decide if it wants to fall out or stay put, but it aint growing back either at the moment where it has fallen out. Have my last Taxotere in 3 weeks so i can finally see a light at the end of the “chemo tunnel”.
Good luck with your oncologist this wednesday, hope he/she has some answers with regards to your HER2 test.
Keep fighting

hi I have also had problems with cronic constipation, and a fellow sufferer adviced golden linseed from holland and barret it has to be the cracked sort, it says whether it is on the box, i bought the organic stuff and it was about £4.50 for a big box…it is fantastic, i have not had a bit of problem since i had it, i put it on my cereal or in a yogurt, or you can add it to soups etc, so easy and so good!!! please try it ther is a smaller box a bit cheaper…
I hope it helps but i have no doubt it will!!
