Triple Positive IDC and about to start treatments

Diagnosed with DCIS in July with 1.3cm lump removed.  Missed a margin so had to have 2nd surgery 3 weeks later.  That diagnosis added IDC but all lymph nodes were clear.  It was grade 2/3 and aggressive.  Just had a CT and abdomen/chest are ‘cancer free’ (first good news!).  Met with 2 oncologists and they both suggest the basic protocol of 12 weeks of Paclitaxel concurrent with breast radiation, followed by either 6 or 12 months of Herceptin and 5 years of one of the Estrogen blockers.  Has anyone opted to NOT do the Paclitaxel for a triple positive lump that has been removed?  I’m having a hard time with 30 radiation treatments plus Taxol plus Herceptin plus Estrogen blocker!  I haven’t been able to find any statistics without the Taxol.

Hi ,you could also ask about this in the Ask the Nurses section of the forum.
Herceptin ( for HER2 positive cancer ) is not usually given without chemotherapy which is probably why it’s been recommended but everyones  circumstances are very individual and you have to weigh up risk versus the impact of the treatment. You could ask for a breakdown of the statistics to help you make your decision .It can seem very overwhelming but if you can just concentrate on one step at a time, one treatment at a time. Do you have a breast care nurse you could discuss this with ?
