Trying to sleep with lung mets

Hi Ladies with lung mets.

I was diagnosed about a year ago with bone and lung mets.  Bones are fine but lungs are becoming a real problem - just started capecitabine.  Can you help me get a decent nights sleep?  If I lie flat it is getting hard to breath and have those frightful moments of waking up and feeling like I am suffocating. I am normally a side or belly sleeper which isn’t helping either Trying to sleep with more pillows but seem to get a crick in my neck and end up with a head ache (sorry don’t I moan a lot).  Has anyone come across a good pillow/device or cunning pillow stacking method to make upright sleeping more comfortable?  Wondering if those triagular pillows are any good or maybe memory foam.  OH would be greatful too I think I wake him up wheezing, coughing, tossing and turning.

hope you are all doing OK and revving up to nice Christmas.

Cheers Jacqui

Hi Jaqui

I have lung and bone mets but at present I am not having trouble sleeping (well not because of the lungs. I take Nytol at the moment because I am a poor sleeper anyway) Just thought I would say that hopefully in a few weeks the Xeloda will kick in and you will find that you can breath better. Take care. Sheila. xx

Hiya,

Just reading your post from December.I also have lung mets and to begin with I found breathing at night really hard - i felt like i was drowning,it was horrid! Me and OH laughed as i whistled when i breathed!

Anyway, the main problem was i had a litre of fluid on the lungs, maybe you may be suffering from the same?? It got so uncomfortable in the end that the hospital drained it off for me, although i do now whistle a bit i dont get that awful suffocating feeling.

I did try sleeping propped up but as you say always had a crick in my neck in the morning and would wake in the most peculiar positions!!

Let me know how your doing
