Tubular Adenosis/Excision of Microcalcifications

Hi

I am new to the forum, have been reading the topics since being advised that I needed a biopsy on a cluster of microcalcifications in my left breast which had showed up on a mammogram.

I had a stereotactic biopsy and the result has come back as Tubular Adenosis which I believe is a benign condition which can “mimic” invasive breast cancer. I was relieved, but my gynaecologist has advised that I have the microcalcifications removed as it will give me more peace of mind in the future. I was unsure what to do as to be honest I have a near-phobia about any kind of medical procedures (to the extent that the first time I had a mammogram I passed out cold and came round lying on the floor!) and would never undergo anything that wasn’t absolutely necessary.

I would be very grateful if anyone who has been in a similar situation could advise me whether it would be a good idea to go ahead, and if so, what exactly does the procedure involve?

I should explain that I have been living in Spain for nearly 5 years, and although I do speak Spanish, I’m not fluent enough to discuss the finer points of medical procedures and my feelings with a doctor, and there isn’t a Support Group or Breast Cancer Clinic here I could turn to. I have to have private medical insurance as I won’t be entitled to Spanish public health cover until I become a pensioner, and it is very much cost driven rather than taking the time to reassure patients.
