Two tumours of different 'types' of cancer

Has anyone had this?

Finished chemo, but taking Herceptin and Arimidex and about to have operation to remove my previous reconstruction (Nov 2009). As of this afternoon plans have changed and been told that only ONE of my tumours has responded to chemo and the other one hasn’t (and has grown).

So, my op will be to remove this non-responsive tumour, send it for testing (as biopsy will not give conclusive answer). The results will take a couple of weeks and from that, decide what to remove and what other treatment options are available.

Anyone else got two different sorts of tumour?

Hi

I don’t have different types of tumour but I read somewhere, probably on this site, that 30% of secs change.

Hi annie
I think it’s quite common for chemo to work better in some areas/ on some tumors, than others even if it’s the same cancer. It baffles me but I’ve chatted to lots of ladies on here who have had very mixed scan results (eg good tumor reduction in one area but growth/ progression in another area. I’m triple neg + a scan last month showed a great response in my lymph nodes to carboplatin but I’m sure things are progressing locally. It’s a bloody nightmare. Where are your tumors- are they both in same place?
Really hope you don’t have to wait too long for biopsy results + that your treatment is effective.
All the best x

i was diagnosed 3 years apart with two different tumours… right side was grade 1 hormone positive tumour and left side was grade 3 triple negative tumour.

i work in breast screening and a number of women who get diagnosed have more than one type of tumour… each area usually has a seperate biopsy and we know at the outset what grade and features each tumour has… however sometimes you can have one tumour with areas within it that respond better to different types of treatment.

good luck with your surgery
