have been feeling really down since last week my appt is next week at breast clinic as doc has referred me for further tests
I went in as over a month a go I got purple bruising on left breast and not painful however that breast is heavier and bigger than the right. Once the doc did physical examination she spotted a hard lump on the left breast. Since then I’m so worried.
just reading through and came across this forum.
i’m just not sure with my symptoms hoping it’s not but will this be more of a inflammatory breast cancer or more towards the lump? I’m so confused
also what will happen at the breast clinic will I be told on the day the results and then if needed more test have to be done?
Sorry you find yourself here; it’s perfectly normal to feel anxious and stressed, it’s a very worrying time.
I can only tell you what happened at my clinic appointment, others may have had difference experiences but it might give you some idea what to expect.
I was firstly examined by the consultant, who was able to find the lump. I was then sent for a mammogram of both sides. I was then sent for an ultrasound, and having looked at the lump they decided to take some biopsies. They numb you first, so don’t panic if they say they need to take some! I was then sent back in to see the consultant who told me that whilst they couldn’t be certain before the biopsy results, they were pretty sure it was cancer. From being in this forum I think it is pretty normal for them to try to give you an idea what you are dealing with at the appointment, but in some cases it is not as clear cut so not everyone can be given an indication of what the diagnosis is.
The waiting about is definitely the worst bit. Just try to remember that most lumps aren’t sinister, and even in the event of bad news, treatment nowadays is excellent.
I wish you the best of luck and hope you manage to have a lovely Christmas
Thankyou I’m trying to stay positive but it’s very hard at times as my youngest is 1 and I’m 33 yrs old. My worry is the purple bruising that I’ve got as-well as the bump. And I know I’ve not hurt myself anywhere it’s been there for over a month and just checked thinking it’s be okay and fade but it’s actually spreading more now but it’s not painful either. And then the lump I can physical see the part where the bump is as the part of breast is swollen and can be felt too and it’s a hard lump.
Hoping everything will be okay x
It sounds like a difficult time for you and as @sharlou mentions it is understandable you feel worried.
Breast changes like bruising and the lump your GP has felt can happen for many reasons. They may be due injury, due to hormonal changes as part of your monthly cycle (if you are still having periods) or due to benign conditions (not cancer). You’ll probably find your breasts change quite a bit throughout your life.
You may find it helpful to read our information on what happens at a breast clinic. If you do require imaging, the breast clinic will advise you on when the results may be available. Dependant on the type of investigation you have, some results can be provided on the same day. For any other results, you may be given an appointment to return for your results, or you may get them over the phone or by letter. They will also advise if any further tests are required.
