Hello, I was diagnosed 6 weeks ago and when I asked the BCN of the exact type she said it was IDC, however, I have just seen my histology report of the biopsy where it says it is lobular. I am so confused, please can you explain if these can be the same thing? Thank you in advance.
I have heard of people having a mix of both …ask one of the team to go through your results with you
@bonnie3 after original ultrasound I was told lobular, after results of biopsy was told ductal and results of WLE was lobular. When I questioned the oncologist he said the biopsy report said ductal type cells but the last one is definitely the one to go with
Thank you. It is such a learning curve x
Go with what your histology report says and if there’s something you do not understand or that worries you ask your BCN to go through it with you so that you aren’t left with any lingering questions. If you’ve been offered a Holistic Needs Assessment you could request for this to be done as part of that . Xx
Thank you, I will put a call into my BCN today. Good idea about the holistic needs assessment too.
Hello bonnie3,
Thank you for posting. It is understandable that you are confused about the type of cancer you have, when you were originally told that it was invasive ductal cancer (IDC) and your pathology report describes it as lobular cancer.
As @cat15 says it is possible to have a mix of both ductal and lobular cancer. Your pathology report is the most accurate record of your diagnosis, as @elsie1 and @JoanneN say. It is a good idea to talk to your treatment team or breast care nurse, as @JoanneN suggests. They will be able to explain your pathology report to you in more detail and answer any questions that you may have.
