U5 Mammogram and Ultrasound result

Hi all, I had a mammogram and ultrasound on the 5th and was told I had a suspicious lump.

I then received a letter on Thursday stating that the lump is classed as M5 and U5 so I’m now panicking. I did ring and speak to the BCN who advised that I need to wait for the biopsy result and an appointment to discuss this which will be in 3/4 weeks.

How do people cope with the waiting? I just feel like I want to take to my bed and sleep until then.

Also has anyone here had an M5 U5 result and it turned out to be something else?

Have they arranged more scans for you in the meantime or are you just waiting for the biopsy? I think I was M3 or 4 but had one U5 lymph node in the armpit and was told it was very suspicious of cancer immediately after the tests were done. I had staging scans to check the rest of the body before they got the biopsy back so I guess my doctors were pretty certain. The way it seemed to appear overnight and be huge when I found it may have alerted them to it being triple negative so they could see there was a need to hurry (I’m 43 and it’s more common to get triple negative in younger women). I was terrified by the idea of them rushing to staging and even more so when they found something in my liver that needed an MRI - turned out to be a little fatty lump in the liver but cancer in the breast and lymph node. I can totally understand that horrible penny dropping feeling you’re having right now and I’m sorry you’re in that position. I found reading here, the downloadable leaflets, r/breastcancer on Reddit very helpful and also spent a lot of time using ai deep dive in google search to find medical journals to be as informed as possible about diagnosis and treatment. Otherwise good diet, hydration and exercise will help you and getting out for walks might take your mind off it or let you process it a bit. The breast nurses on here may be able to help you find a therapist to speak to too, I’ve found therapy very helpful and was nearing the end of psychotherapy training when I found the lump! Really hope you can find something to give you some peace while you’re waiting for your results x

Thank you for responding. Glad the liver was clear and hope your treatment is going well.

Not heard about any other tests in the meantime, I’m just waiting on the biopsy result.

I’ll take a look at those articles you suggested. Much appreciated

I’m hoping that they are less certain of yours or less certain that it could be aggressive, I was horrified to be sent for whole body scans before even getting the biopsy back - that felt like they were very certain and suspecting spread! Hopefully whatever you have can be dealt with in a more usual way of testing / diagnosis / treatment etc and not a sudden hurry. Really really hope yours turns out to be something benign and just a scare!
