Unbelievable!
Unbelievable! Hi everyone
I’ve had BC twice now, first diagnosed at 31 in 2001 in left breast, then again at age 35 in right breast in 2005. Triple negative both times.
After waiting ages to get an appointment at the genetics clinic I finally went in June last year, and was told my results would take between 2 months and a year. Then I had a letter saying that they would probably take about 6 months.
Consequently I’ve been on tenterhooks since December waiting for them to arrive. A month ago I had a phone call from the genetics department asking if I was still registered with the same GP. I asked if that meant my results were ready and the lady said she couldn’t tell me! I assumed it meant they were and last night got the dreaded brown envelope.
Instead of my results, it contained a letter telling me there had been a ‘technical difficulty’ with my test and I therefore needed to provide another blood sample and start the whole process again. This was bad enough, but when I looked closely at the blood sample request form I noticed the date. 14TH SEPTEMBER 2006!!! How can this have happened? How can they have kept that on file for 5 months?
To add insult to injury the consultant (who I don’t know), wrote that she ‘looked forward to receiving my new sample and letting me know the outcome in due course.’ I’m certainly not looking forward to it!
Needless to say I am contacting the hospital on Monday. Has anyone else been on the receiving end of frustrating ineptitude like this? I’m SO angry!!
