Uncertain

I recently noticed pain in one of my breasts, just below the underarm, and didn’t think much of it, until it didn’t go away, and then felt a roughness/thickness in the same area.

I’m 23, and know that makes me far less likely to suffer any type of cancer, but due to have just moved, and having to wait for proof of address to arrived, I have to wait 2 weeks to get an appointment with a GP, I’m a bit concerned, and generally uncertain if I should do anything before I can get to see a GP.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Hi theclumsycat,

Welcome to the BCC discussion forums where I am sure your fellow forum users will be along to give you some support. Just to try and put you at ease a little, it’s worth knowing that the majority of breast problems are NOT breast cancer but any breast problem does need to be checked out with a professional. I have put for you below the link to one of BCC’s publications you might find helpful to read, also our freefone helpline is available again on Monday morning at 9am if you would like to give them a call and have a chat with one of the staff there. Lines are open 9-5 Mon-Fri and Sat 10-2 0808 800 6000, calls are free, as are our publications.

Hi C
If you have any concerns it is best to get it checked so do see your GP. As you say at your age BC is unlikely but there are always exceptions to the rule, I am sure any GP would rather see you and say there i nothing to worry about than see you several months later an say ‘why didn’t you come sooner’. Overall waiting 2 weeks is very unlikely to make any difference to the outcome if it is BC.
While you are waiting you can always phone the helpline they are very good at talking things through with you.
Good luck - I hope you move wa not too stressful.
