Hi garelle and welcome to the BCC forums

In addition to the support and information you will receive here from your fellow users I am posting to a couple of our publications which you and your daughter may find helpful. The first one is about the specialist support BCC can offer your daughter which is tailored to younger women and the second is a publication about prosthetics and clothing after surgery:

breastcancercare.org.uk/healthcare-professionals/publications/quick-order-list/*/changeTemplate/PublicationDisplay/publicationId/80/

breastcancercare.org.uk/healthcare-professionals/publications/quick-order-list/*/changeTemplate/PublicationDisplay/publicationId/106/

Please do feel free to call our helpline if either of you wish to talk in confidence with someone on 0808 800 6000, the line is open weekdays 9-5 and sAT 9-2.

Take care
Lucy

Hi
So sorry your daughter has found herself in this club that none of wanted to join but you and her will find lots of support here.

8 years ago when I had my mx, I used the mail order companies Nicola Jane and Amoena and was pleased with the bras, although they were £20 - 30 each.
There didn’t seem to be any “off the peg” post op bras around in the shops then, as I recall.

However, I’ve recently seen some really pretty, lacey bilateral pocketed post op bras in Matalan for just £6.
I’m also told that Asda and Marks and Spencer do some pretty, reasonably priced ones too.

Wishing your daughter (and you) all the very best with treatment x

thank you for your help, its such a big thing for a young girl to get her head round and us, anything that will help her we will do. She has a wonderful breast nurse but thought someone in the same position would know other places

Hi,

Big hugs to your daughter. I was 28/29 when diagnosed last year and like her wanted younger style bras. If she’s anything like me she might like t-shirt style bras. Personally I couldn’t wear underwire ones either so I went with the Lara by Anoema, it comes in pink but I understand they are discontinuing this colour as it’s not popular, you can still get it though. I had 3 bra’s which lasted me the year until I had my recon, they are fairly pricey at £22 each (VAT is removed) but to be fair they are really good quality. I had 2 in pink and one in white. They come up a slightly different size to normal bras so as before where I needed a 34 C/D I needed a 36B. I do recommend getting fitted properly. Where I live in Cheltenham we have a fab shop with specialist training.

After her surgery she will probably just want cotton cropped tops or vest tops with a shelf thing in them.

Best wishes to her, feel free to get her to contact me if she’s looking for younger ladies to speak to.

Hi
Just saw your post. Not sure which area you are from but I have found a shop which has just opened a few weeks ago in preston lancashire.
I went in last week to have a quick look(I had 3 kids with me).
They have quite a good selection there, including t shirt bra’s and swimwear.
The lady who owns it has had bc herself so was very helpful and informative.
I will be going back when I don’t have the kids with me.

Hi Chris

I’m in Preston, what’s the shop called??

Hi
Not sure what it’s called but it’s down cannon street in the city centre on the right hand side. You can’t miss it.

Hi

Excuse me for posting on this thread but, as part of our ongoing service development, Breast Cancer Care is currently looking at how our services for younger women meet the needs of those of you who have been diagnosed in your twenties. We’ve drawn up a short questionnaire, attached, and would be really grateful if any of you who fit in this group would take a few minutes to fill it in and e-mail it back to us at <script type=“text/javascript”>eval(unescape(‘%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%79%6f%75%6e%67%65%72%77%6f%6d%65%6e%40%62%72%65%61%73%74%63%61%6e%63%65%72%63%61%72%65%2e%6f%72%67%2e%75%6b%22%3e%79%6f%75%6e%67%65%72%77%6f%6d%65%6e%40%62%72%65%61%73%74%63%61%6e%63%65%72%63%61%72%65%2e%6f%72%67%2e%75%6b%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b’))</script> by 10 December 2010.

Many thanks
