Hello ladies
I just wanted to share my experience at the security gates of Istanbul Airport
It seems that the wire in my bra triggered the security gates and instead of the usual “pat down” I was subjected to being “felt” over my entire body including a hand down my top, which I found extremely distressing.
I have put in a complaint to the airport authorities however I’m making a mental note never to wear an underwired bra when flying

Wow - worth knowing and so sorry you had to deal with that . I hope that your complaint yields results and that they don’t do it someone else . Underwired bras are such a common thing that’s definitely excessive.
I had an odd moment flying out of UK to Dublin - I have a CPAP machine and I was worried that the magnets in the mask would cause a problem and the girl on security looked at the case with extreme suspicion took it away opened it up and swabbed it ( for drug residue I assume ) - it was clean obviously but I had a roll of sellotape in the bag as I had been told it’s handy if the mask or tube springs a leak but the security staff informed me that you can’t have Sellotape in your hand luggage and I allowed her to dispose of it rather than try to recall my checked bag .Quite disconcerting when someone thinks you’re a criminal and I’m embarrassed about needing the CPAP anyway . On the way back I started explaining to the lovely Irish guard who just said " yeah CPAP we’re seeing that quite a lot now " . Obviously won’t ever be carrying any kind of tape again. Xx

Wow, so sorry to hear your experience. That is so not acceptable.
I have triggered Heathrow and Gatwick metal detectors with unwired bras, apparently M&S are the worst culprit. I swore I’d not wear an unwired bra through an airport again. Luckily for me it was a passover with a hand held machine and that was it.
I haven’t been back at an airport for years… I’m hoping this is a one off incident.
I hope you get somewhere with your complaint🥰

Thank you ladies, I found the whole experience quite triggering of my recall appointment after my first mammogram which detected my breast cancer
