Unreal 2 Weeks

I’m in France and was diagnosed just over a week ago. I had a lumpectomy and some lymph nodes removed last Thursday. Currently still in hospital awaiting blood tests tomorrow and a scan on Monday. Consultant says that so far everything  looks good, lump is small and whilst it’s invasive it’s grade 1 and doesn’t seem to have spread. Between initial mammography and coming to hospital I worked (I’m an English teacher) and while I was working I was Ok. Consultant initially said I should leave hospital on Sunday so I’d planned to go back to work on Monday and carry on as normal. Anyway reality has well and truely bitten and it’s dawned on me for the first time that this isn’t a dose of the flu, my life is not going to be normal for a while, I’m probably not going to get back to work next week and I hate it.  Without family life and students to occupy it, my mind is now in overdrive about the blood tests and scan. Also a bit shocked as compression bandage came off today and I saw the state of my left boob for the first time :smileysad:

Hi Frenchie.  :)

Sorry no one has replied to you, I’m not sure why but your posts didn’t come up in my ‘latest posts’ notifications - so I’m guessing that must be the same for other people.  So no one is ignoring you!

I’m also sorry you’ve found yourself here too - a forum none of us really want to be a part of.

There are many teachers on this forum, you’ll be in good company.

They move fast in France, diagnosis and lumpectomy in just over a week, impressive.  I’m guessing you may still be waiting for your pathology after your op though?  Waiting is the worst.

What are your blood tests and scan for?  I’m thinking in the UK things are probably done in a different order for no apparent reason!  :D

Keep in touch and let us know how you’re getting on.

Hugs. xx

I’ve only just seen your post too - not sure why I hadn’t noticed it before as I’m sure I would normally have noticed the title of the thread
Anyway - just wanted to wish you all the best and say keep posting on here for support and advice.
I was diagnosed in November and also work in a school (Teaching Assistant) and bring with the children kept me going. I haven’t worked now though since my operation on 7 Dec because it was followed by chemotherapy and it’s too risky to be around children and catching all of their coughs, colds and worse!!
Let us know how you are getting on, take care
Kim xx

Hi Frenchie.
Like the others I haven’t seen this or your other two posts before now. So sorry. Anyway it’s a hard enough thing to get your head around when you do know why you’re having what you’re having! By the sound of it you get your results earlier than we do, we all have to wait at least two weeks. I also work in a school (reception class) and went straight back to work following my biopsies and all subsequent tests until I finished on the Friday and had my op on the Monday. Two weeks later and I have a problem with my wound as I had a therapeutic mammoplasty. I am missing work so much and itching to get back. Bizarrely whilst I was initially upset that I would have to put chemo back until fully healed the upside is I will probably be able to return to work for a bit.
Keep talking to us. Now we’ve found you we won’t lose you. This is by far the best thing I ever did in this roller coaster of emotion xxxx

Hi frenchie, lots of us teachers on here! I’m a secondary school teacher am back on reduced hours this is my third week after WLE and ANC. I start chemo 6 April though then not allowed to work. Hope you have lots of local support too and you are recovering well, there’s always help at hand here, love Sarah xx
