unsocial hours pay for NHS staff on sick

Hi i am an RMN working for the NHS for over 20 years. Can anyone clarify how long i can claim unsocial hours / weekend pay whilst on sick pay. this i my second episode with bc , my first episode i got unsocial / weekend payments through out ( 9 months) very good manager. Current manager saying 3 months but NHS terms & conditions state 6 months full pay , 6 months half pay but unsure about the unsocial bit.

Thanks All
xx

Hi Sarah

Can I suggest that you discuss this with your payroll manager who will confirm the position regarding sick pay. This will depend on how much sick leave you have had over the last 12 month rolling period.

Best wishes.

Hi Sarah
Wasn’t sure of this but was looking for something totally unconnected in the AfC handbook and in there it states:
The definition of full pay will include regularly paid supplements, including recruitment and retention premia, payments for work outside normal hours and high cost area supplements. Sick pay is calculated on the basis of what the individual would have received had he/she been at work. This would be based on the last three months at work or any other reference period that may be locally agreed.
Not sure what happens when you get past the first 6 months.
Hope it helps but if you want to have a look yourself to establish your own circumstance it is on Section 14.

The unsocial hours should continue at the full rate for as long as you are entitled to full sick pay and will then half when you go onto half pay.
As Louise BCC says you need to check if you have had any sick leave in the last 12 months as this could affect how much full pay you get.
If you have had no sick leave in the last 12 months then you will get 6 months full pay with full unsocial hours, then 6 months half pay with half unsocial hours.
If you come up against any problems check with your union rep. I had to take my NHS employer to tribunal to get “on-call” payments while off sick.

Thanks guys xx
