On Monday (the 10th) I woke up in the middle of the night with both of my nipples swollen/tingly/red and both of my breasts extremely sensitive, leaking milky fluid and itchy. I had pain in my armpit on the right side. My nipples also didn’t invert but more smoothed out and flattened. The redness started going away by time I got into the doctor on Thursday (the 13th). She found a pea sized lump behind my right nipple and said that since the symptoms were in both breasts it was more than likely an infection. She’s prescribed me a 10 day antibiotic, I’m on day 3 now (the 16th) and while the swelling and redness has gone away, the swelling in my armpit has gotten worse, my skin is still itchy, my right breast/underarm and arm are so sensitive air blowing on it hurts. The lump hasn’t changed in size either and is still painful. She doesn’t want to see me again until next month.
Maybe I’m just anxious but I don’t feel very good about the symptoms.
Edit to add: My thyroid has started to swell and my neck and face have developed an itchy rash
Thanks for posting. Its understandable you are still concerned about your symptoms.
Often its only once a course of antibiotics is complete that all symptoms of a breast infection resolve.
However, you explain that the symptoms in your armpit have worsened. Although the GP said to wait until month before returning, if you do have any concerns you can arrange to see or speak to them sooner. They can also advise you on some pain control.
