My friend called her little girls Tahlia and Gracie-Mae.
My only child is called Christopher - not very unusual. I did like the name Cory for a boy but it didn’t go with the surname. Loved the name Rachel for a girl, also Elaine. Cairn for a boy is a current fav of mine.
Worked with an elaina which was a little different.
Friends at work have an Ethan and a Macy. I’ve also heard a few of the old fashioned names coming back too - Lily and Isobel being used by friends of mine.
When we had our second daughter I wanted to call her Elishaba (both a’s with the short a sound as in bat) but husband didn’t like so she ended up being Sophie. Friends of mine called their daughter Clementine and my daughter has a friend called Cloudy which I think is very pretty.

hi my name is galen ( pronounce the a as A ) and everybody says how unusual it is a scottish name, my little girl is named phoebe mae and my son is cameron xx
I was a bit llike Eileens daughter. I had a name already picked for my first daughter years before I had her. I thought a girl called Beth would be lovely. However I forgot about this when I was pregnant ! When she was born I was reading Poldark and toyed with Demelza (a main character) for a while. Then I decided on Elizabeth (another main character) -which would all fit nicely with Beth- except that from the day I named her she promptly became Lizzy . Oh well-shes lovely as Lizzy and it fits her perfectly. My other children are Anna and Richard .
But my own family names are
Angela Nuala Irene Margo Carmel Colette
A Friend named her little daughter Maxine just because she had never come across one in several years of teaching.
I ‘collect’ names though and offer for your delectation some of the names of children I have taught.
Alanshearer (all one name)
Keanu Reeves
Shevaughan
Quey (pronounced kewey)
Chanyce (pronounced shaneece)
Pebbles
Gwyneth,Geriant,Gwendoline,Gaspar (all the same family)
Whatever the baby is called Im sure it will fit perfectly though.
My niece is called Destiny Skye.
Neighbours Grandson called Lennox and Granddaughter Lacey Mae
I have 3 children.,Jake David,Jennifer Erin and Julia Frances…(have a thing about the letter J) also love the names Harry,Jack,Madeline and Jasmine…xx

Other unusual names are Sacha, Scarlett, Kaia and i also like Lilly and Lillia…
Good Luck with your name search Deb xx
My friend has just become a Granny to a baby girl called Isla. I’ve also heard the names Caleb and Lucas recently.
A work colleague has just become the proud father of a bouncing baby boy called Reggie (his wife had a rotten time though, so I don’t think they’ll be a Ronnie along for a while)
All the best to you all,
Tracy xxx
I keep coming back to this one … I love names!
Worked with a woman years back who had 2 daughters Kenna and Shella.
Also heard of a Shaianne (not sure of the spelling but pronounced like the red indians) and Sanara. Nikkita and Elora were another 2 girls names I’ve come across.
My son was at nursery with a little boy called Merlin and I still giggle at this one cos the child was a strange little creature who looked like and moved like a puppet.
Being a teacher, I can only say, spare a thought for the poor children with ridiculous names today. I have to say I’m sometimes embarrassed to say their names out loud… being stared at in Legoland for calling to children in my class (Angel, Pixie and Marquise), saying the register for a whole year without laughing at Summer Frost (I had a boy in the same class with the surname Halliday and always wondered if she’d change her name if they married!), wondering whether Casper would float around the room, and despairing why really old-fashioned names are suddenly very fashionable (Bernard?). Maybe I’m just boring liking “normal” names?
I agree Vickybumblebee - I used to be a teacher and have had some hum-dingers of names - memorably Porsche (G), Danzig (B), Bronx (B), Ebony Blackbird (Very blonde G!!!) and Peairre (B). Also had one class in which I had 2 Jordans, a Nile and an Amazon.
Also found that teaching killed my love of some names - I can’t take a Charlie or a Shannon seriously at all now.
My two, now grown up daughters are Elizabeth and Eleanor - and both hate thier names. Now known as Lid and Elle. Ah well, you just can’t win can you?
Still long live originality.

My two are Paul and Emma so not very unusual although I think whilst we hope our kids will stand out in the crowd the truth is its the last thing they want and they just want to be the same as everyone else. I like Ruby and Oscar but as my days of naming babies are long gone I will have to save them for any cats I have when I am old and grey!!

Teacher friends of mine, with many years experience, can now look at a class list and tell you EXACTLY which children are going to cause them problems, without even clapping eyes on the kids…it’s all in a name!
