Uplift & Reduction

Am looking for advice re uplift and reduction. DX in Nov 2010, went through chemo, WLE, SNB, radiotherapy and 12 months Herceptin. AT 12 month check surgeon suggestion uplifting “good” side to match the side where had had radio. Wasn’t interested then as I was still having treatment etc. Now another year has gone by I am more inclined to do so. Am seeing him next week for 2 year check.
In an ideal world I would like an uplift on my “good” side and then reduction on both sides. What I am not sure on is whether this would cause any problems on the “cancer” side which has been radio-d (so to speak). Is it possible to have a reduction when you have had radiotherapy?
Has anyone else gone through this? Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi SamLee,
my situation isnt quite the same as yours, but may help. I had lumpectomy, high dose internal radiotherapy and a course of ordinary rads. Took me a very long time to get round to seeing a plastic surgeon (diagnosed in 1991, surgery in 2008), but I had an uplift on the side I’d had the cancer and a reduction on the ‘good’ side so it matched. I did not have any more problems on the zapped side than I did on the other. Best thing I ever did. It was so nice to feel ‘normal’ again.
Please let me know if there`s anything else I can tell you to help.
Margaret

Thanks Margaret, that’s really helpful. I wasn’t sure if I could have any sort of surgery on the cancer side because of the radio, so hopefuly it will be possible.

Hi

I had a mx in Dec 2006 and breast reconstruction in Dec 2010. I have just had a reduction and uplift on my good side, and nipple reconstruction. It was done as a day case, I have been ok, no real pain just discomfort. Due to get my dressings off tomorrow, hopefully wounds will be ok. Any questions feel free to ask.

Hi Sam, it def is possible to have a reduction/uplift to the cancer treated side, i will be having this done next yr to match me up when i have finished active treatments for my 2nd BC this time in opposite breast, i also had 23 rads to my left breast in 2007 (1st BC side) and back then had a WLE/SNB, but have now had a theraputic mammoplasty (reduction/uplift) for my 2nd primary in my right breast, my surgeon is going to do the same OP for me on my WLE side so i will have symmetry.
Hope this helps ,Linda x
