Hi Just need to vent!
My radiotherapy has been postponed for 6 days because the machine has broken down. I have been waiting since August for treatment so another few days won’t make much difference. I didn’t realise how upset I’d be, I guess I’d psyched myself up for the treatment to start. I hear its common for these machines to breakdown. Has this happened to anyone else?
How frustrating for you! I had radiotherapy 4 years ago. During the 6 weeks I was having mine one machine broke down and another was out of commission for 2 days for an annual service, so if it’s any consolation these delays are not unheard of.
I had 15 rads at Northampton and the machines broke down three times. This did not delay my treatment but meant that the appointment times were extended from early morning to late night and there was long waits to use the remaining machine.
I hope that once this is sorted out everything goes well for you.
I had my rads at James Cook Hospital in Dec of 2006. I spent the first week in floods of tears after one machine after another broke down. 3 out of 4 were out at one point and I had waits of 5 and 6 hours each day. With travelling, I was out of the house for 8 or 9 hours for the first 4 days, then it got better. had it happened in the second week, I think I would have coped but it happened on the first day when everything is so new and scary. hopefully your delays will be little ones.
