I feel very protective towards you breast cancer ‘chicks’ and this is just a little plea to remind you all to stay safe because I’m a teensy bit worried. I was alarmed to notice that some of you are printing your real names and addresses. I urge you to please, please be careful and if you want to contact each other on facebook may I suggest that you exchange your personal details by using the PM (private messaging) facility because it is much safer that way. There is a lovely cosy atmosphere on here and it seems so safe that you can be lulled into a false sense of security but you need to be aware that anybody, absolutely anybody, can read what you have posted so you must protect yourselves because there are some big bag wolves out there just ready to pounce on us little red riding hoods. There have been complaints in the past about people joining who didn’t have breast cancer but were just being nosy and that makes me so angry :smileymad: and this morning I had to report a post because it was blatantly commercial.
Oops fiestyflora I think you’re referring to me as I did put where I came from in a post. Thanks for the advice. I really thought it would be safe on here & that everyone would be genuine. X
I agree with Flora, sometimes it is easy to forget that the world and his wife can read everything you write and they don’t have to be a member of the forum to do so,I was reminded of that very clearly when I googled something and it actually brought up one of my posts from the forum!!!Its there forever.I did notice people exchanging phone numbers and personal info too on the threads too,may be worth e mailing the moderators to ask for those posts to be removed .Much better to message each other with those details .
Yep fully agree dont share emails, phone numbers in public folks People who know me could now work out who I am from my forum posts but they would have to know me in the first place.
I don’t think you can delete them yourself think the moderators /admin have to do it .Dont panic it’s very unlikely anyone will abuse your information but best to stay as safe and private as possible.
Hi Jomo. If you click on your own username you have the option to view your posts. From there you can locate the post you want to edit and remove the info you don’t want public. Hope that helps Tat x
Thank you for discussing the important issue of forum safety. It is great to see users looking out for each other.
It is important that our users do not share personal information such as home and email addresses as this is an open forum and we want to protect all our users security and safety.
We also encourage users to make their username something that is not easily identifiable so they cannot be found on google. This is outlined in our forum guidelines.
If you would like to delete any content in your posts you can do this by clicking the ‘options’ drop down on the top right hand side of your post and selecting the ‘edit reply’ option. You can then remove the content of your message and save.
