Is there anyone else who experiences urinary burning 24/7 and that feeling like you’re bursting for a pee even tho you’re not. No UTI present, Currently on Anastrozole and unable to take any hormonal creams or HRT. Any suggestions would be great.
Yes ! The day after my chemo infusion I have to go every five minutes!
Urgency and I wake in the night at least twice ,caught short too
I think it’s the chemo because it settles down after a few days

Hi @Cara247 Obviously I don’t know your circumstances but I wonder if you may have vaginal atrophy? This is common, more common than people think, after menopause and the Anastrazole may have the same effect as it is reducing your oestrogen. It’s worth going to the GP, or ask your Oncologist. I had this after the menopause, and it got worse with Letrazole, and following a visit to a specialist Gynaecologist, am having a low dose of oestrogen twice a week which helps. Research has shown that the amount absorbed by the body is so negligible as to be insignificant so the Oncologist is happy.
There are also vaginal moisturisers which help. She gave me Dr Wolffs v san moisturising cream.
I hope it improves.
Hi @Cara247
Yes I can totally relate to this. I am on letrozole and post menopausal. I did have an actual uti in October last year, had 7 days antibiotics and it cleared. I had another flare up 3 weeks ago, urgency and frequency and stinging , for that I had 3 days antibiotics. Just this week I thought I had another one. I had to get up 4 times on Sunday night. Dip sample was clear so no antibiotics this time. However I was still going twice during the night. I saw my oncologist on Wednesday and told him. He described it as a local irritation. I did take the sachets of cystopurin and found that it eased the stinging. I drank cranberry juice and took d mannose capsules. I personally think with me it’s triggered by something I eat or drink as it’s settled down again now. My bladder is really sensitive to anything citrus, coffee and red wine. The letrozole is stopping oestrogen production and together with a sensitive bladder it’s a problem. There are some tablets you can get from your gp which calm the bladder down. It might be worth asking for some.
Thanks for replying, yes I’ve been diagnosed with atrophy and when I told oncologist I was using vaginal oestrogen he told me to stop immediately so I need to find alternative
Yeah also experienced it during chemo
Thanks for reply sounds like you’re going through the same thing, some days it seems bit better then not comes back. I’ve stopped caffeine and alcohol but still have constant urge. It’s just so uncomfortable I will go back to GP again and see what they suggest but they usually say they don’t know what’s wrong!
When i was diagnosed almost 2 years ago the oncologist said the same. Id already been on vaginal oestrogen for a couple of years post menopause. Within a couple of weeks it was unbearable so I restarted without telling him
A few months later he said new research showed small doses were safe.
Could you have thrush?
No I even thrush treatment just in case it was
Hi - I am on letrozole. I had urinary burning and urgent need to go, and would leak very easily. I was also starting to feel quite sore and uncomfortable when sitting at work. I am overdue for a smear test because I just can’t face the thought of being so uncomfortable. A few weeks ago I spoke to my GP and she prescribed replens which is a hormone free moisturiser. It has definitely helped with the burning and urgent need to pee. It is also starting to feel better when sitting for a period of time now I’ve been on it for around 1 month. Definitely worth going back to your GP to discuss x
Thanks for reply. Good that you found somehting to help. I think Ive tried replens in the past. Will need to speak with GP again.
I am on Anastrazole and I use vaginal oestrogen twice a week. Blissell . The GP contacted Gynae who said it was fine . Even said I can have vagifem , which is stronger . There is new research that shows that women who have had breast cancer and use vaginal oestrogen have no lower survival rates than those who don’t. You are more likely to stay on your aromatase inhibitor . Please do not suffer . I wish I hadn’t waited 18 months. It takes about 3 months to work properly and I also use YES VM,which you can also get in prescription.
