Just wondering if any other post menopausal ladies have experienced repeat UTIs on letrozole and what, if anything, helped to keep them at bay? I’m experiencing symptoms again a month after a week of antibiotics and then thrush. Today I picked up another prescription for cipralex… I’m hopefully speaking to my bcn tomorrow morning because the hospital suggested I change meds and I haven’t heard anything yet. Has anyone changed to anastrazole ( & found it better( or worse!)? Tamoxifen is a possibility but I don’t think I’ll be encouraged to change to that as recurrence more likely ( G3 Oncodx 12 18mm idc). I had a year on letrozole without many side effects but NOW, boo hoo!
Well, having taken HRT for decades, and stopped cold turkey after my diagnosis in 21, went through the menopause on speed, I never gave VA or anything else a thought-silly me!!
All of a sudden, about 2 months ago, a year + of Letrozole, side effects, of tingling fingers, collar bone pain, hip and knee pain, the little pessary I had happily has since 2015 (obv changed now and then) dislodged-so uncomfy-I was in tears trying to get a nurse, gp, ANYONE to remove it for me, finally managed, only for the same thing to happen again, Several visits to the intermediate gynae clinics seeing different people each time, trying different pessaries-none of which suited-I’ve lost count of the number of people who have gazed at my nether regions- I am told it is VA! Got some Vagirex for that-seems to be working, but then I discover I’ve had a UTI for about two months as well!
Seriously thinking of stopping it altogether-I’m 78 and I’d like to enjoy what’s left of my life!
Hi @Margarita I don’t know if this will help you if you have really bad UTIs but I started getting mild versions when I started Letrozole as part of VA and wasn’t allowed any topical HRT so I started taking d-mannose tablets and it has helped tremendously. I got some from my local pharmacy but then moved on to getting some high strength tablets (1000mg) from Your Supplements on Amazon. I chose them because of the hundreds of positive reviews, many of which are from people who are martyrs to UTIs. My GP knows I use one tablet a day and I have found them very useful. It’s actually just a natural fruit sugar. Might be worth a try?
