It’s occured to me that I ought to share this.
Following bilateral mastectomies in 2002, I had succesful bilateral DIEP / TRAM reconstruction last July.
At my follow up with the PS 3 months later, he advised that I use Mepiform on my scars,as the left side in particular was quite hypertrophic (red and raised.)
Mepiform is a self adherent soft silicone dressing, which can be cut to the size required.
It can be used on newly healed or old scars.
My PS warned me that it is very expensive (about £100 per pack of 5 strips) but he said to look on EBay for it, as it could be picked up for around £30 - £40.
However, I asked my GP if he would be prepared to prescribe it for me and I am fortunate that he has.
I’ve been using the Mepiform since last October and have been advised to continue for another 2 months.
My scarring is so much flatter and paler - a result, I assume of the dressing.
Has anyone else had experience of this?
