Utter Chaos

I have been on the waiting list since November to have an implant replaced that is leaking, well I got a call on Tuesday asking if I could go in on Thursday (yesterday) to have it sorted. Great I though no time to worry so off I went had to be there for 7.30am, I went to the ward I was told but they were so busy, I was asked to go to a different area. Others due in that day and myself were just sitting around waiting to see what would happen, utter chaos. At about 8.30 the anesthetics arrive to speak to their patients using any space they could find including the toilet. Mine wasn’t very impressed because I hadn’t had an assessment due to being called at short notice, I assumed any checks needed would be done that morning. Next came the surgeons, mine called me over and said due to the lack of facilities, plus another hospital hadn’t sent all my notes I wouldn’t be having my op. He did give me another date March 11th and said I would be first on the list. I wasn’t in the least upset I just wanted to get out of the mad house, never seen anything like it. I did get all my tests done plus x ray so it wasn’t a complete waste of time.

Its the first time I’ve really thought that the NHS is suffering, it wasn’t the staffs fault too few of them, its a wonder more mistakes are not made.

Better luck next time I hope.

Gosh you poor thing. I think the NHS is beginning to creak at the seams. Don’t get me wrong, we are so lucky to have it and it’s fantastic, but it’s so huge, has been set such ridiculous targets by politicians and doesn’t have the resources to meet the demands. A friend had a back operation cancelled this week because they were overbooked (different situation I know), but he’s self employed, had cancelled work, made arrangements with his mortgage provider etc etc, and was given a date of 1st March.

Hope it gets sorted out for you finally on 11th. I don’t like the sound of leaky implants - I had 2 put in 10 weeks ago!!
