Hi
I have been prescribed Vagifem from the Menopausal consultant. Every day for 2 weeks then twice weekly. I had her2 breast cancer 6 years ago. Im on vagifem 2 weeks now and have taken a period (first one in years). I have period cramps and bleeding. Is Vagifem causing this. Bit worried as I thought it was local but afraid it is going into my blood stream. I wont be reviewed for 4 months at the menopause clinic. Should I stop using it. X
So sorry you are going through this, it sometimes feels never ending.
It’s really impossible for anyone to say what is causing it and how to stop it, outside of your clinical team.
I would contact your GP in the first instance and talk it through with them and try and get them to push for a review at the menopause clinic earlier.
It may be four months before your review but I’m sure they would want to look into any possible side effects from treatment and how to rectify them.
Good luck xx
Hi fiftysomething
Thanks for posting.
Although Vagifem is a local treatment, vaginal bleeding, discharge or discomfort is documented as being common in those women using it. The product information for patients also says that this is usually nothing to worry about.
However as @lynnc123 says, it’s important to get this checked out. In some women it can be a sign that the lining of the uterus has become thickened. You can contact your GP or menopausal consultant to report your symptoms and for further advice.
