Vaginal Bleeding, A bit worried, On Tamoxifen

Hey guys, hope you are all as well as can be.

I need a bit of advice really.

I finished rads three months ago after 6 cycles of FEC chemotherapy.

To cut a long story short, I am 28. I continued to have very very light periods throughout chemo although they stopped at number 5 chemo. I then had a massive period 5 weeks after last chemo. I was due another and then started taking Tamoxifen. The periods then stopped and I haven’t had one for 3 months now, not even the slightest hint of one.

The last three days I have been bleeding very slightly down below. Kind of like the start of a period.

Has anyone else experienced this ? Do periods usually stop through Tamoxifen ?

I have made an appointment with oncology but its not for another 3 weeks.
I’m begining to worry it maybe have spread to my ovaries or uterine.
I have also had pain in my collar bone and am worried about that too.

I would be greatful for any advice.

BIG HUGS TO ALL

I also had a 'show’like the start of a period a couple of months after I started Tamoxifen. My BC nurse and my Doctor were not unduly perturbed and said it was probably hormonal. That was a month ago and have seen nothing since. Try not to worry about his, but if you need to phone your BC nurse or GP. All these things that happen now, like aches, pains etc seem so much more scary don’t they, but I try to put them to the back of mind or I would go mad.

Hi Mandy
Just wanted to say that I have been on Tamoxifen for 5 years and at my last Onc appt I was told to discontinue it. During the 5 years, I have been twice referred to Gynae consultant for irregular bleeds. I have had one hysterotomy which takes away the womb lining and that lasted for almost 3 years. Now the bleeding is back and I have had a hysteroscopy ( a look/see procedure that takes a biopsy), which showed an irregular thickening of the womb (caused by Tamoxifen) but no cancer. I am now listed for a further hysterotomy and hopefully that will be the last - as I am now a tamoxifen free zone! Lol! Hope that helps a bit although I have only just seen your post.

Mandy - just picked up this post. Yes this is normal on Tamoxifen. I had the same after a few months of Tx, which then became much heavier, even though I had a D and C (at the same time as oophorectomy). Like KateG I also had thickening of the womb, so have stopped Tx and am reviewing treatment options and will probably start aromotase inhibitor now.

Hope you have sorted this now?

Also, again a Tamoxifen side effect, I started to get bone aches. At first these were just a bit in my fingers, but towards the end I was very painful in ribs and hips and ankles. These have gone a few days after stopping Tamoxifen.

All best

Hi

Ive just put another topic on about discharge after taking arimedex for 2 1/2 months - but missed this ‘post’ about tamoxifen - does anyone have this experience of bleeding/yellow discharge with arimedex?

Hi Mandy,

I too had 6 sessions of FEC and had quite light and reasonably regular periods throughout. I naively thought tamoxifen would stop periods but I had one heavy one at the start, and then have had reasonably regular light-ish ones ever since (since June 2007). I spoke with my bc nurse only yesterday about this and she said - it can take our bodies a while to adjust to tamoxifen …and what with the chemo n all. Its very early days and …as tuff as it is …just to play it by ear and maybe keep a diary - (which I have been doing anyway). I’d say that the gaps and irregularities that you’re experiencing at this point in time of your post-treatment and tamoxifen are pretty normal.

But maybe your bc nurse or onc can help put your mind at rest if need be

best wishes - Lisa
