Vaginal Hysterectomy

Hi,

I’ve gone through 16 months of treatment for triple positive bc -neoadjuvant chemo, lumpectomy and snb, radiotherapy and 10 months of Kadcyla. Also Letrozole for 5 years, nearly 11 months completed so far. Finished Kadcyla on Sept 4th and am now booked in for a vaginal hysterectomy with uterine prolapse repair on Wednesday. The hysterectomy is to try and prevent a recurrence -removing ovaries and tubes, going to take my uterus as well whilst the gynaecologist is down there! I need a prolapse repair which has started since chemo and all the hormone therapy (Zoladex and Letrozole). Just wondering if anybody has had similar surgery and how you found it, pain and recovery wise; also any advice or tips that may help me? I’m pretty scared about it and don’t have much left in the physical and emotional tanks after all the previous treatments.
Best wishes,
Helen.

I am waiting for exactly the same surgery as you, for the same reasons. I too am triple positive, 4 years on taking anastrozole. I’ve got a pre-op assessment on Wednesday, which came as a bit of a surprise as I wasn’t expecting surgery for some months. I haven’t got a surgery date yet and realise the pre-op doesn’t guarantee surgery soon, having heard of people who have to have a couple of assessments as the pre-op ‘runs out of date’. I’m anxious but would love to get it out of the way.

Hi @JeanAnn,

Well done for getting through all your treatments (triple positive carries a lot of it which is good but also pretty gruelling) and 4 years of Anastrozole under your belt as well. That’s great. Good luck with your pre-op assessment on Wednesday. I have to say all the assessments I’ve had, surgery has been pretty soon -within the next 2-4 weeks. I know what you’re saying about feeling anxious but wanting to get it done as well. For me, I only finished 16 months of treatment a month a go so am still pretty weak and reeling from it all. Haven’t had any time to process what has happened as yet and to start rebuilding my strength and life. Hopefully once I get over this surgery, I will be able to do so. Good luck with your assessment, hope it goes well.
Best wishes,
Helen.

Thanks, Helen. All best wishes to you on your journey to feeling stronger. Xx
