I need help guys,
my sister who has been suffering with breast cancer for three years heard the shocking news yesterday the her cancer is terminal. she has a form of cancer called metastatic breast cancer and there is no cure.
she has been told that it is a matter of months as the cancer is aggressive and spreading quickly the worst of it is as its on her surface skin she can actually see it growing not nice!.
Anyway the only chance of her gaining more time is to have the drug called Vastin (bevacizumab) which is not licenced for use in breast cancer and it is highly unlikely that she will get pct funding!.
She has two young girls aged 11 and 14 who need more time to prepare for all of this so any help tips or advice would be great.
love a heartbroken sister Nicola x x x x x
Hi Nicola
I am so sorry to hear of your sister’s diagnosis, this must be a very difficult time for your sister and all of your family.
Breast Cancer Care publishes a leaflet entitled ‘Talking with your Children about Breast Cancer’ which your sister may find helpful. I have given the link here:
breastcancercare.org.uk/docs/talking_with_children_0.pdf
This can be either downloaded or ordered from this website.
Kind regards.

Hi Nicola, I have bone metastases, where else are your sister’s metastases?
A friend who posts on the Secondaries Forum is having Avastin in the US.
I don’t know if there are any trials using Avastin here in the UK.
Which part of the UK does your sister live in? There are 2 centres friends have been referred to when they have wanted 2nd opinions, Christies in Manchester and the Royal Marsden.
Is your sister her2+?
What other treatments has your sister had?
Sorry I’m asking so many questions but I’m wondering if you might get more help and feedback if you post your message on the Secondaries (Metastases) Forum.
Belinda.
Thankyou Belinda,
my sisters secondary cancers are actually surface skin cancers which are the size of red pinpricks and spreading i will post my message on the other forums you advised.
my sister is not her2positive
and the treatment she has had so far is fully mastectomy on L/side
further surgery to remove surface tumours
two lots of chemotherapy
one lot of radiotherapy.

Hi Nicola, I know that they are doing a trial for first-line treatment of mestastatic breast cancer at Addenbrookes hospital in Cambridge. The clinical trials practitioner is Sophie Lewis, her phone number is 01223 348075, the switchboard number for oncology is 01223 245151. Best of luck with this.
Jennifer.

Belinda, I think you were refering to me. Nicola, I had avastin combined with abraxane for 6 months last year and had wonderful results from these drugs. I had lung mets and after having this combo went on a break which lasted 11 months. I hope that you can get this for your sister. Like Belinda I think your sister should go for a second opinion. If the onc has suggested this drug then I don’t understand why he isn’t trying to get your sister hooked up with it. Good luck! Funnyface
Hi FunnyFace…yes I was thinking of you…thanks for replying here…x
Nicolam, I left you another message on the secondary thread about getting this drug. Funnyface
