very frightened new girl

I’m 31 years old, and really scared. I found a small lump few months ago just to the top left of my left nipple. The GP referred me on a non-urgent referral, and by the time the clinic appointment came round in December that lump had resolved itself, and another one had come and gone below the nipple.

So the consultant basically didn’t even do ultrasound. But over the past 6 weeks, I’ve developed another, massive lump below the nipple on the same breast (in the place of the second lump) - and a different GP in my surgery has given me an emergency referral this time.

She said there seemed to be some tethering, which doesn’t sound good. Has anyone had a similar experience ? I keep trying to tell myself it might be OK but I’m completely terrified

Hi Bowers

Sorry I dont really know much about this but I think it is unusual for malignant lumps to come and go. You could have an infection. Im pleased that you have been referred to the emergency clinic it shouldnt take too long now.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Hi Bowers

It may be something to do with your milk ducts but you have done the right thing in going back and insisting on another referral. It shows that you are regularly examining your body looking for signs of change, and if you are concerned about something you find you are taking control and getting yourself checked out rather than putting your head in the sand. I really hope it is nothing serious, let us know how you get on.

hi i have a lump in my breast and are going for tests tomorrow.i reguarly had cysts up until three years ago that stopped and now a new lump im hoping will be cyst again but still scared

Hi bower

I am sorry to hear that you are going through this worrying time. I have to agree with what has already been said particularly about keeping on top of this and getting referred again.

The fact that the GP referred you as an emergency will frighten you that’s normal but sometimes they do this because they would hate to let what ever this is grow too quickly without investigation.

I can only add that when I have sat in the breast clinic waiting for results many many more folks come out with smiles on their faces than those who are taken to a side room to talk about the next steps.

Waiting to find out is definitely the worst bit I am sure most of us will tell you that. I truly hope that this turns out to be a cyst that can easily be sorted. But IF and only IF you are told this is cancer please be assured there is so much treatment available, you will be in good hands.

Keep in touch

Carol

Hi Bowers,

I know its easier said than done but try not to panic yourself at this stage.
I agree with Yvonne in the fact that maglignant lumps tend not to come and go like you have described.

You’ve come to the right place and done the right thing bu going back to your doctor. A cousin of mine has had various ops to remove cysts from her breasts at different stages throught her adult life and still gets the odd one or two crop up now.

Good Luck and with you all the way,

Mandy xxx
