Unfortunately when injected with contrast at recent CT scan I started vomiting until my stomach emptied. Has anyone got any tips for avoiding this? It hasn’t happened before. According to articles I’ve read anti emetics don’t work. I wonder if fasting would help.
Hi Mindy
How awful for you. I confess I’m glad I didn’t read about it before my MRI last week. You’ve plenty of time to discuss it with your oncologist who presumably will liaise with Radiology - you can’t be the first patient this has happened to so they must have solutions. Even bypassing the trauma for you, it must cause delays in their system that they don’t want.
Personally, I’ve found anti-emetics very effective. Vomiting is a lifelong phobia of mine so I was prescribed Cyclizine by my GP long before cancer. The hospital pharmacy gave me another, Metoclopramide, and even said I could alternate them so long as I left 2 hours in between! I never used M and used Cyclizine only intermittently and was never sick or seriously nauseous during chemo or radiotherapy. I do take a cyclizine before a scan just in case because a potential panic response. People in the Make Seconds Count recommend peppermint oil in warm water if you don’t want drugs but I’ve never noticed any adverse effects from anti-emetics.
I hope you find a solution. Presumably you have a scan every 3 months so get the hospital to resolve it for you soon. All the best,
Jan
PS. I just got my latest CT scan results. The report started by saying I’d had my left kidney removed!! Both are definitely in place - it was a transcription error which should have said left breast removed or left mastectomy. Can’t quite make sense of it but it’s now amended
