How long do you usually ahve to wait, after having a lumpectomy, before the results are available?
Hi @shylady
I think it depends on the Trust you are under, but after my first surgery, results were ready after 4 weeks, after my second surgery if was a 6 week wait which felt like torture. I’m now 2 and a half weeks after my third surgery and already feeling anxious with the wait xx
Hi I waited 3 weeks and they had just come in that morning of appointment , it’s always been about 3/4 weeks I know it’s tortures good luck with your results x
Four weeks for mine. Good luck. x
Was 2 weeks for my results. That was just over 4 weeks ago now im waiting for oncologists appointment. Waiting is the hardest time. Try to stay strong. Xxx
I am under the North Bristol Trust. I have an appointment for 13th June (that will be 5 weeks from the date of the operation) I will keep my fingers crossed that the results are back in time and that results appointment are not canclled for a third time.
The messages of support are appreciated. Thank you.
shylady. Fingers crossed. Hopefully good news. Xxx
Hi am with East Kent Trust and have waited 6 weeks, heard back last Friday. I would advise contacting your Breast Cancer Nurse after 4 weeks as due to an admin error my case was left off this weeks MDT meeting which means for me another weeks delay until a 2nd test is required to be sent off. I think if I had reminded them I was still waiting they would have double checked my situation and potentially not made the error but who knows.
6 weeks for my first and second surgeries and my appointment date for this third surgery was made for 5 weeks. It is torturous. If they tell mevi need a fourth operation I may well cry! Good luck amd remember to come and chat to us…we’re in the sane boat x
Hello shylady
Thank you for posting. As @tracy1 says the wait for your surgery results will vary from trust to trust. It will depend on the staffing and workload at your trust but like @charlottebee and @southwest123 experienced, it should usually take between 2-6 weeks. Your breast care nurse or treatment team will be able to tell you approximately how long your results should take. As @molly3 says it may help to contact your breast care nurse if you have not received an appointment within the timeframe they have told you so that they can follow it up if needed.
Waiting for results can be a very anxious time as @debi1 and @bluesatsuma say. You may find our information on anxiety and coping helpful.
