Hi all. I hope you are all coping ok. I posted something 2 weeks ago. I had a load of biopsies on some microcalcifications 16 days ago. I’m still waiting & when I chased it last week I was told the biopsy results still weren’t back & it could be 2 weeks yet. How have you all found the waiting? I’ve told a few friends & they seem to think that no news is good news but I know the system doesn’t work like that re the MTD meeting & consultation appointments etc. I’ve tried to be calm but it an anxious time still.
Hi polly
I know the waiting is terrible all my results were 3 weeks and as you say time for MDT
Meeting , and to write full report on findings so frustrating , at first just told a few friends and some family until I knew what I was dealing with , must admit couldn’t relax waiting on results tried to keep busy it is hard xx
Thank you. It’s just such an unknown time. I don’t know your story but hope you are coping ok.
Hi
The waiting at every checkup, scan, biopsy etc until you have a plan is the worst time and everyone has anxiety, worries, sleepless nights and the what ifs turmolis but i 100% promise you once you have a plan you will feel more in control so in the meantime as hard as it is distract yourself with work, family, coffee or tea catchups with friends, doing hobbies and DO NOT GOOGLE anything
If you need answers use this site , the nurses here or Macmillan and if you are fortunate to be near a Maggies pop along
Good luck xx
Hi @pollyw,
Most of us think the waiting is the worst thing out of everything!! I had surgery, chemo and RT last year and it all went to plan and was very doable. But it was the waiting at the beginning that I hated the most, especially cos you’re still in shock from finding a lump!
I’ve just had my 18 month mammogram so back to the waiting game now!! I’m having them every 18 months for 10 years (I live in Wales). Is this what everyone has? Just interested cos Amy Downing from Strictly said that she’s having yearly mammograms and yearly MRI’s!!
Take care xxx
The waiting is definitely the worst, and the not knowing exactly what you’re facing. I’ve had 2 lumpectomies and now have a mastectomy to look forward to on 4 Oct. I’m also having an Endoscopy tomorrow to check out a thickening of my oesophagus, which showed up on a CT scan the other week. I’ve a holiday of a lifetime Australia & Bali 6 week trip booked for 2 Dec to 17 Jan. The not knowing how my treatment will pan out ahead of these dates until the MDT sits and discusses the removed tissue lab findings after 4 Oct, thus reducing recovery time constantly. So frustrating.
Hope all goes well mastectomy recovery is not to bad depends if you have nymph node removal as well you will get away as part of your recovery xx
Hi @moobloo - Ive been told yearly for mammograms after getting back to some kind of normality, but then I’m in England. Maybe request an annual check?
Hi @charlottebee. Thanks. I’m having all nodes on left side removed too so let’s hope for speedy recovery.
Hi @trees1
Node removal takes bit longer not pain wise but you feel stiff and numb under and around arm , they give you exercises to do and does help strange feeling and have to be careful , it’s all doable xxx
Hi Charlotte. Yes I’ve had 3 lymph nodes removed already, but obviously the rest are going too now. I had barely no symptoms after which as good but expecting next time to be different. Will do my exercises and hope for another speedy recovery. Thank you and all the best xx
Hi @trees1
Full node clearance can be problematic I was lucky didn’t get Seroma which is common , my daughter gave me a heart pillow which was great put under my arm for comfort and in the car stopped seat belt from rubbing across chest as a passenger , everyone is different but honestly mastectomy/ node clearance wasn’t to bad just take it easy listen to your body take care and wish you luck with your journey Xxx
Thanks for the info Charlotte. Good to know xxx
Hi Pollyw,
The waiting is definitely the worst and can cause all sorts of anxiety. I was fortunate to have to wait only 5 days for the results of my biopsy though. Afterwards, I found the best thing was laughing with friends and watching enjoyable TV programmes. At night, I’d listen to programmes on BBC Sounds (not the News!) or podcasts. Of course, each stage of the process causes terrible worry. I had my lumpectomy in early June and am only now having radiotherapy, which was delayed because I developed a very large haematoma. The wait for the radiotherapy was awful because of the very long time I had to dwell on all the side effects that had been described to me. In addition I was very worried about how I would manage because of limited movement in shoulders due to rheumatoid arthritis. While I was waiting, someone suggested having reflexology. I have and the very sympathetic practitioner has focused on calmness and relaxation which I have found very helpful. She has combined the reflexology with some gentle massage. I wish I’d thought about it earlier on in the process.
I had my first yearly mammogram 6 weeks ago and still waiting for the results. It’s just awful
I can only imagine, I’m waiting for my appointment to come through and that’s bad enough
Hi, I’m in Wales. I’ve been told I’ll be having yearly mammograms for 5 years (I’m 56).
Hi @jax6
I need to ask why I’m due every 18 months then! How strange, it must be to do with the type of cancer we have maybe?? Waiting for my result now!
Thanks for responding xxx
Hi. That’s not good. Have you tried calling them?
It’s definitely the most frustrating the waiting around. Feel your pain. Just want things sorted now asap. Hope you get your next step soon. X
