Waiting and worried :-(

Hi all,

I went to my Gp two weeks ago feeling generally unwell and painful lymph nodes under arm. I wouldn’t usually have gone to the GP except when I woke that morning I noticed a 50p sized red patch just above my left nipple. She did a full breast exam and highlights that she felt the area was thickened. Gulp! My left breast is re smaller of the two so I am not sure if it is thinkened or just easier to feel than the other ?!?. Iv had two weeks of abx and it’s still present although not as red. It’s faded to a light purple colour. She referred me under the 2 week urgent appt. I was given an exact 2 week wait so going on Tuesday. Since then Iv noticed what I can only describe as a ridge on the underside of my breast when I raise my arm. I am sick with worry - I’m only 32 and a single mum of a 7 year old. It’s screaming BC to me! :frowning: I’m just can’t think of anything else that it can be. :frowning:

Hi Amy,

It’s a horrible, hideous wait for your investigations, I am genuinely sorry for you that you are facing this worry and it must be especially hard being on your own with a youngster to look after. I know that at the moment you are terribly scared of it being BC, but it also might not be too. The hard bit at this point is the not knowing and imagining all sorts of scenarios, most of them awful. Now, here’s the thing, even IF it were to be BC (and you were one of the unlucky 1 in 8 women) then all of us on here are testament to the fact that there are effective individual treatments. This cancer is so much more treatable than it was years ago, and for the majority of women they have their treatment and move on with their lives.

The hardest part for you now will be the psychological and emotional impact, in less than two weeks you will know if you need further investigations (like a biopsy, mamogram or ultrasound) or if you have a benign condition. Come here and talk to us on the forum, we understand the position you are in right now.
