Hi- I recently did diagnostic imagine and 5 masses were found in my right breast. 3 were determined to be cysts and two that needed further investigation. The radiologist told me that she doesn’t think I have cancer but we need to test for sure- I have a potential fibercystic change that couldn’t be confirmed via ultrasound so that’s getting biopsied. I have a 4 mm mass that is adjacent to two ducts that she suggested is a papilloma or cyst with debri. I know that no one here can give me a dx but I am curious how often a radiologist would be right. The report said birads 4 but no subclassidixation was given. I am 40 and have no active symptoms- this was found through a screening mammogram.
Dear flowermama,
Welcome to the forum, we are all here for you.
I’m not medically trained to advise you, except mention what happened In my case, I found the radiologist was extremely knowledgeable in fact, more than the surgeon. She was extremely kind and caring by showing me all my scans and gave me her time, explaining it all to me. I think I was particularly lucky at the time. So hold on to what you have been told and remember no one has cancer until it’s been confirmed.
Take one day at time, be kind to yourself. Please come back and let us know how you’re getting on. Fingers crossed for a good outcome.
Health and happiness going forward.
Hugs Tili
Earlier this year I had meeting with my Radiologist arranged by my BCN to clear up a few lingering questions that I had . As part of this she went through all of films with me both before and after starting with the routine mammogram that picked up the cancer in the first place which was only 8 mm and to me didn’t look like anything at all even with magnification . When I said wow how did you spot that she said knowledge of what is normal and applying that to looking at films - and the experience of looking at literally thousands of them . The Radiologists are very experienced and often right , usually 2 Radiologists will look at a film to get a consensus of opinion and then someone else may check it if they don’t agree on the findings . Unfortunately as you say nobody can give you a definite answer at this stage and the waiting is always hard . Hoping it will turn out well for you xx

Hi flowermama
Thanks for you post. It’s understandable to question how often scan images are correctly interpreted at the time of the scan.
As @JoanneN and @Tili say, radiologists very experienced and each breast image is also cross referenced by a second radiologist to confirm they are both in agreement before an official report is written. However, it is the biopsy that will provide more information and confirm whether an area might need to be removed or not.
