waiting for biopsy results

Hi all, am waiting for biopsy result to show whether or not I have ibc. The consultant seems to be pretty adamant and did say that it may not show up on the first biopsy. Can anyone explain why this could be? Waiting is definately the worst thing and just want to get treatment started.
If anyone can give me any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks juju

Hi juju

I’m sorry to read you are having a pretty tough time wating for results at the moment. I’m sure the users of this site will be along to support you soon.

In the meantime maybe you would like to a member of our helpline staff who are there to offer emotional support as well as practical information. The free phone number is 0808 800 600 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9.00 to 5.00 and Saturday 9.00 to 2.00.

Best wishes Sam, BCC Facilitator

Hi Juju

I tend to badger my bc nurse…she can see access my results on the day the consultants all have their multi-disciplinary meeting. Tends to be much quicker than waiting for the results to be typed up and an appt posted out…

I’m also waiting, I know they meet today and she has promised to call me with the outcome…

I’m already in receipt of chemo (3 of 6) and found a 2nd lump on my other breast…
Hope you hear soon and that its good news!!!

hi juju, the waiting room is horrible, i had some core biopsys done and the results came back to say i had dcis, thats sort of pre- cancer not actual cancer, then i had more core biopsys to test to see if the cancer was invasive , if that makes any sense, its a horrible time for you, we have all spent days sitting in the waiting room and its not nice, i had to wait untill my appointment for my results, as my breast unit dont give results over the phone, even if its good news,

hi juju,

The problem with a biopys is that they take such a small piee of tissue that although the scan shows something there, the sample they take misses it. They might decide to do another biopsy to make sure,

If you ring the helpline they can ask you exactly what has happened to you so far, and what the surgeon said, and might be able to shed some light on it.

It is such a horrid time waiting, just not knowing what is wrong with you and what treatment you are going to have, until you know what your results are it is only natural to worry.

Do come back on here as you think of more questions or if you want to talk it over. Everybody remember how frustrating it was.

Hi Juju

I have answered your other post

Hi all and thanks for your comments.
Biopsy results showed no cancer and pathologist recommended a dermotologists opinion who thinks it may be a skin condition called morphea. Has anyone else heard of this? Apparently the symptoms are very similar. I am still waiting for a pathologist who specialises in dermatology to look at my biopsy but am still convinced it is ibc. The two consultants I have seen are both top of their game and now it’s like I dont know who to believe.
Am going to request another biopsy to double check.
Please feel free to get in touch if you have had the same issue .

Juju,

That is very good news if they don’t think it’s cancer. Hurrah!! BUT, if you are still worried after seeing the dermatologist, then I would demand a second biopsy based on what the doctor told you at your first biopsy. Don’t be scared of being forceful! That way you either get peace of mind if the second comes back negative or you get diagnosed sooner rather than later and start treating the condition.

Here’s hoping it’s morphea!!

xx

I would pin my hopes on the pathologist. they are the ones who look at the cells and their characteristics and have much more knowledge about wether they are cancerous or not. Presumably the dermatiologyst will do a skin biopsy to see if its morphea, and then you will know.

However I agree with sandytoes, if the dermatoly report comes back inconclusive then you can insist on another deeper breast biopsy. But I realy do hope it does not come to that. I hope the dermatologist can sort you out
