Hi everyone,
I just wondered if anyone can tell me if after all their treatment do you I get a final scan to check all the cancer cells have gone?
I have had a double mastectomy, grade 2 her neg hormone positive in right side only and now finished my radiotherapy. Im still waiting for my follow up. Thanks
Hi, I had 5 sessions of radiotherapy after lumpectomy. I never received any follow up scan, just mammogram a year later. It might be different after a masectomy though. Hope you are doing well x
I had WLE/Radiotherapy in 2015, never had a follow up scan, only yearly mamogram
Hi Wintersun1,
You dont usually get a followup scan after all the routine treatment as they work on the assumption that all the cancer has been removed! IF there were any cancer cells left, they would be too small to show in a scan!. If they find positive sentinel lymph nodes after lumpectomy or mastectomy you would probably get a full body bone scan and CT scan at that point to check for spread. Otherwise they usually only look further if you show symptoms of secondaries, not an easy thing to come to terms with.
Have you had a follow up from your surgery with the biopsy results? It might be worth contacting you Breast cancer nurse to talk it through with her.
I hope you are recovering well from your operation and radiotherapy. My very best wishes going forward.
It’s strange isn’t it, I bet you/we walk out of the last radiotherapy session, ring the bell then feel a bit lost!
Thank you, i have been advised that the biopsy margins from my surgery were clear but havnt had a letter for confirmation, rung a bell or have someone say “yes you are now clear of it”!
I wonder if you can request a scan, i just feel like i’ve had all this treatment and not had a clear end to it all.
Hi, I understand completely. I had my surgery and radiotherapy. No follow up for a year. Although I was delighted that treatment was over, that year till follow up, was a long year x
