Waiting for needle biopsy results

Hi

I’m a newbie to forum. Found lump in left breast last February, GP arranged urgent appointment and was seen 11/03. Had consultation, 2 mammograms plus ultrasound but no FNA.

Was told that I had a collection of cysts and that there wasn’t anything to worry about. Celebrated that night with a bottle of Champers! However lump grew and breast became sore with a pulling pain in my nipple so went back to GP then back to Breast Clinic 28/04. When consultant went to asperate cyst/s he could hardly get any fluid so has taken needle biopsy and said that a Breast Care Nurse will call me late Friday and is also writing to my GP to recommend some kind of hormone treatment.

Should have asked what he meant but was a bit shocked by events. I am so worried. Am I worrying too much? My Mum had breast cancer so feeling a bit panicky.

Feel a bit better just writing this down.

Best wishes to all

Patsy

Hi Patsy

Im not surprised you are feeling panicky. How horrible for you to celebrate and then find yourself back to square one. Is the breast care nurse going to give your results over the phone? I think its good that your consultant is giving you a thorough check, I hope everything works out ok for you.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi Patsy

The best thing to do is get back in touch with the breast clinic and ask for the number of the breast care nurses. Ring them and tell them your worries. They will be able to access your notes and let you know what the consultant means.

Good luck I know how you feel. Only I’m a 25 year old male. Be strong. That coming from someone who isn’t, but is in the same situation. WAITING SUCKS, BUT FINDING OUT SEEMS SCARY. AAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!! DO IT WITH ME.

Hi all

Thanks for all your support. Yes, Yvonne, the nurse is going to call me between 5-6 Friday evening - I’ll be sitting with the phone and a glass of wine in each hand!!, I might take up that advice Cathy. My strategy is to keep myself as busy as possible. I can’t seem to concentrate much at all. I know what you mean Jonno, when do you get your results?

I’ll def. let you all know how I get on

Dont blame you for worrying hun especially with your mum, but if they said cysts first time around it would be very unusual for them to turn into anything nasty, but I am not a doctor. If it is around your period time you would have pain and lumpy anyway. I keep my fingers crossed for you on Friday, and the other ladies are right the breast cancer nurses are fab.

Hi Sue

You are so right - it would be very unusual for them to get it wrong and I’ve had cysts removed before (about 15 years ago) - its just that this time the Consultant didn’t get the expected fluid. I’ve obviously still got the cysts because they showed up on the ultrasound. Perhaps it is just lumpy tissue surrounding them - I’ll find out tomorrow but for today I’m going out with a friend for some retail therapy - I can’t seem to focus or concentrate on anything else. I’m putting on a happy face for family and friends but inside I feel so sad - something is growing in my breast and I don’t as yet know what it is.

I went through the menopause over 10 years ago so don’t now suffer from lumpy breasts. My Mum had a lumpectomy about 30 years ago and thankfully her treatment was a success. I don’t know your story Sue as I’m new to the forum but wish you everything that you wish for yourself.
