Waiting for Oncology referral

Hi all

I’m hoping that someone might be able to put my mind at ease.  I was diagnosed with triple negative bc 2 weeks ago after biopsy, and a week last Monday agreed to have chemo to shrink the lump first before a lumpectomy.  I asked the consultant to refer me to a closer hospital to my home, which she agreed to do, and their oncology department  received it last Tuesday (I called up to check they had it). I’m just feelng so worried that I don’t yet have a date for my first meeting with the oncologist. Can anyone let me know the wait time they had between being diagnosed and their first meeting and treatment plan? Am I worrying for no reason or should I call them again tomorrow to check what’s going on? I don’t want to be seen as ‘that’ patient but I’m not sure I can do waiting for the post for too much longer. Any advice would be so wonderful. x

Hello and welcome.  I would give them a call tomorrow and just ask them if they could check to see if you have been given an appointment date yet, it is possible that there is letter on its way to you anyway.

Please do not feel they will think you are “that woman” they know how anxious people are so will totally understand

Let us know how you get on xxx

The wait can be about 3 weeks but treatment of some kind should happen within 30 days of diagnosis according to NICE guidelines
