Waiting for referral to clinic aged 36

Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum, I found out over Christmas that my natural Grandma died of cancer aged 26.  Then I saw on the news one of the first symptoms was a rash - which I had last summer.  I have just got back from GPs who confirmed I have a hard lump on my breast and I should hear within 48hrs about my referral.

I know there will be an ultrasound, possibly a needle I think my questions are:

  • What does the referral actually entail?
  • How long does it take??
  • Am I OK going by myself?
  • WIll I be told that day if it is a cyst?
  • If I am not told does that mean I should be concerned?

Many  thanks for reading this.

Hi Wheezy

Welcome to the forum.  I’m sure other members will soon be along to offer you some support.  We have a booklet which explains what might happen at your clinic appointment.  I thought it may be helpful so I have attached a link:

www2.breastcancercare.org.uk/sites/default/files/your_breast_clinic_appointment_bcc_70.pdf

You can also contact our Helpline to talk things over.  They will be able to offer practical information and emotional support.  The opening times are 9-5 on weekdays and 10-2 on Saturdays.  The number is 0808 800 6000

Very best wishes

Janet
