Hi
I had Stage 2 ER + breast cancer. After a successful lumpectomy and no spread to the lymph nodes, I have started Tamoxifen and have 5 days of radiotherapy in January.
I’m 52 and definitely in peri menopause and HRT was really helping but that had to stop when I found the lump.
I am now 11 days into Tamoxifen and wondered when the side effects will kick in?
Previous menopause symptoms were joint pain, hot flushes and insomnia. I’m dreading all this coming back.
I’m been talking to MacmIllan at the hospital and have a hypnotherapy session end of Jan to help with getting back to sleep.
Thanks
Hi,
I’m in a similar position to you, although slightly younger at 48 (49). I’ve been on Tamoxifen for two and a half weeks and so far the main side effect has been the hot flushes, together with some low mood, but I’m finding it manageable. I was told that I can take evening primrose oil to help which I’ve started. I also take vit D, C and magnesium and I’m trying to keep up my steps. Like you I’ve got radiotherapy in January (starts on the 2nd), but I’ve got to have 10 days. Best of luck.
You may be lucky and not get side effect, mine are minimal, a few hot flushes and an achy hip but not sure they can be attributed to Tamoxifen? Different brands can affect you differently so try and stick to one you find suitable if possible.
Hi romane99
I had minimal side effects on Tamoxifin. It effects everyone different.
I took oil of evening primrose to help with the flashes. As i was diagnosed stage 4 de-nova at 49 i was going through peri menopause.
I opted for an oophorectomy this July and since i have had it, no hot flashes.
I hope the Tamoxifin works well for you. Having cancer is horrible enough but then the menopause thrown in, its shocking.
I have heard hypnotherapy is good, let me know how you go with the sleep.
Take care lovely 🩷🩷
Thanks everyone. I’m hoping this is as bad S it gets. I’m going to look into evening primrose oil. I’ve stopped drinking alcohol for the moment and cut down on caffeine too.
Happy Christmas when it gets here xx
I am 43, so premenopausal, and started tamoxifen a month ago. I haven’t noticed any major symptoms yet other than a bit of stiffness in the morning and more weeing at night. I have had a few periods with low mood but hard to tell whether that is the medicine or just the fun rollercoaster we are on I am worrying about lack of hot flushes…is this medicine actually working?! Xx
I totally get ‘is it working if I’m not getting symptoms’.
I think I’m just going to try and ‘enjoy’ feeling okish at the moment,
And here they come 13 days in: night sweats. But I slept so that’s a bonus,
